A client decided to launch a non-profit in her industry. Her first event had around 50 people in attendance.

Ten years later, she has several chapters around the state along with a base of corporate connections.

Last month during her coaching session, we discussed the idea of getting underwriters at $13,000 each annually and how she could put together a brochure to announce this. A professional she considered hiring for this purpose suggested writing a personal letter to each prospective underwriter instead.

She did neither.

However, she mentioned her idea to a corporate leader and then, implementing tools she’s learned during my new Conscious Creators’ Course, she found herself thinking about her underwriters’ program throughout the month.

Do you remember a time when you were lovestruck and thoughts and feelings about the other would linger in the background or completely occupy your attention? That’s how it was for her. Her thoughts would go in and out about the program she was developing, sharing it with others, the difference it would make… and so it went throughout the month.

The day before last Thursday’s coaching session, she and the corporate leader talked again. In fact, they’d been playing phone tag for two weeks before their follow up conversation about becoming an underwriter.

“We want to give you $15,000 to $20,000. Please give us a reason, a justification. You don’t have to send an email, just a text.”

A short text to him after our session containing seed ideas for the program brought an affirmative response along with an appointment scheduled on Monday for follow up.

She approached this on an energy level first before taking action. The result was that money was being thrust on her with no effort on her part.

In the first week of its release in 1988, only one person bought a copy from a local bookseller of the now classic The Alchemist by Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho. One more copy was bought from that same person six months later. After one year, his publisher cancelled Coelho’s contract. He was 41 and desperate.

However, this living legend never lost faith in his dream or his book, in spite of ingrained beliefs. He writes in his introduction, “we are told from childhood that everything we want to do is impossible. Julia Roberts commented about The Alchemist during an interview for Vanity Fair magazine. With acclaims from Rush Limbaugh to Will Smith, The Alchemist became a phenomena. The book hit a milestone by being on the New York Times bestseller list for over 300 weeks and is now an international bestseller translated into more than 80 languages.

As Coelho describes in the Introduction, “A man sets out on a journey, dreaming of a beautiful or magical place, in pursuit of an unknown treasure. At the end of his journey, he realizes the treasure was within him the entire time.”

Each year, hundreds of thousands walk the Camino in Spain or Portugal. I became enchanted with this quest in another of his international bestsellers The Pilgrimage, a novel that blends adventure with self-mastery.

Speak No Evil

A woman, who always took care of others, used to ask when it was going to be her turn to be taken care of. She told me that her own words sentenced her to needing to being taken care of 24/7 because of her health.

A man used to talk about his desire to be surrounded by women. He joked that it happened… after he got married.

Recently, I read an email from an online entrepreneur sharing how he posted his father’s saying on his computer, “Every day is the dawn of a new error.” He went to work daily expecting things to fail, and they did. “Every day” and “Every. Single. Evening.” It became a self-fulfilling prophecy. He turned them into learning experiences, but he was unaware of how these words created his problems.

Author Florence Scovel Shinn wrote, “Your word is your wand. The words you speak create your own destiny.”

People unconsciously throw words around that create their unwanted circumstances. They don’t realize how words create a mold that life then fills with reality.

Words reveal the way you think and feel, and your mindset shapes your world.

You become accustomed to your word choices, often unaware how you “create your own destiny” through them. For example, if you speak of indecisiveness or confusion about your future, you skew your energy and will continue to create more confusion. “Maybe I’ll do this or maybe I’ll do that. I don’t know. I’ll wait to see what life brings me.”

Speaking about your future like this perpetuates uncertainty. The one thing for certain is that you’re creating more uncertainty. Life will bring you whatever your think, feel and say.

More life-affirming is to speak words where you see yourself having clarity, regardless of what’s going on in your life now.

You can say, instead, something as simple as, “I enjoy what I’m doing.”  “I love where I’m living.” “I’m fulfilled doing what I love.” “I’m grateful for my healthy body.”

You can stop the habit of speaking words that create limitation. The best way is through awareness and paying attention to the words you speak.

To break your pattern, stop yourself, even mid-sentence, as soon as you recognize you’re speaking words that may hold you back in your future. Rephrase yourself using more affirming word choices. 

As soon as you catch yourself speaking words of limit, you can break the habit of unconsciously cursing your own future with limitation. Otherwise, you may be in a flow, but it may be a flow of unconscious negativity.

Think of driving a car and going off the pavement. You’re on the grass, but you’re enjoying the flow of driving so much that you don’t want to stop. When you end up in a ditch, you wonder how this happened to you.

That’s what occurs when you allow words of limitation, confusion or doubt to gain momentum. Your words that follow limiting words are often equally limited. However, you can stop yourself by consciously changing the words that shape your future. It’s indicative of you changing the way you think and feel.

10 Inspirational Quotes in Creating Money

Sanaya Roman is a best selling author of several books whose purpose is to help people discover more of their true essence as well as directly experience higher states of awareness.  Her works have been translated into over 24 languages and have sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.

Creating Money, which was co-written with Duane Packer, teaches how to be in the flow of money while doing what you love. My copy was published in 1988.

All of the quotes I’ve included in my recent blogs are from books that influenced me over the years. This is true of Sanaya Roman, too. While writing, my gaze shifted to two other books of hers in my library, Personal Power of Awareness and Living with Joy.
