SHOCKED About My Mother After Learning This

May 22, 2023

This changed me forever.

She blamed my father for her miserable life.

My mother, who passed in 1988, used what I call mantras – words she repeated so many times that I still know them verbatim.

Because of regular reiteration, I believed and didn’t question some of them. It was like repetition used to learn arithmetic tables, but these were impressed on me with far more feeling.

“When I was young, I used to be happy-go-lucky. Then I met your father.”

Because they argued intensely, she started her day with this mantra: “I wonder what that S.O.B. is going to do to make my life miserable today.”  (Note – she didn’t use initials.)

She had no idea that her daily proclamations and choice of emotions were what made her life miserable, not anything my father did or didn’t do.

She thought her suffering was my father’s fault, and I accepted it as true, too. I didn’t have an attitude about him. I liked and loved him. At the same time, I saw her perspective and believed her woeful declarations.

Then around 2002, I was talking to one my teachers about how I felt sorry for them. He knew my parents and replied,

“Your mother wanted your father to change so she wouldn’t have to change.”

What?!!??

This was a throw-a-bucket-of-ice-cold-water-in-my-face moment.

It was his fault. That was a given. Never questioned it. She lived a miserable life because of him.

Here’s the kicker.

As long as she complained about and blamed him, she didn’t have to take responsibility for her own emotions and actions. It was his fault. She was the victim. Pointing her finger at what she decided were his failings absolved her of cleaning up her attitudes, feelings and thoughts.

In a flash, I realized the blaming wasn’t true. She could’ve been happy if she stopped giving him power over the way she felt.

In a shocking moment, for the first time, I stopped feeling sorry for them.

I realized that my pity (vs. compassion) was condescending and disrespectful of their choices. They decided how to interact with each other. They had complete control over the way they felt. If they chose to argue as a way of life, and if she chose to feel miserable, those were their decisions.

As emotions create reality, she created a “living hell” for herself where she felt “like a prisoner in my own home.” Her life was a self-fulfilled prophecy.

Think about the implications in your life. Who are you blaming for what doesn’t work and how you feel?

  • Do you want others to behave the way you think they should so you can feel good? In other words, do you want others or situations to change so you can feel better? Or will you decide to feel better anyway?
  • As you create your future by how you feel, do you allow others to affect how you feel by reacting to strangers who drive weird, crazy acting people, politicians or past hurts?
  • Are you blaming yourself? Or will you take command of your own energy because, if you don’t, you block your dreams coming true? Guilt, regrets, bemoaning your past, blaming yourself and others are false narratives… and an insult to your divine nature. Everyone’s learning. It’s okay.
  • What mantras run through your head? I can’t afford it. There’s never enough. What if I run out of money or time? Nothing I do ever works out. My life would be so much better if only…

Even if they’re “wrong,” you still can choose your attitude and how you respond. As like attracts like, how you feel shapes your future.

What does this have to do with your life, business or work?

Your feelings and thoughts magnetize your experience, so don’t hand the keys of your emotions to others and “if only” things would be different. Don’t give your power away.

Allowing others to affect how you feel relinquishes the keys to your kingdom – or queendom – of success, happiness and ability to enjoy personal, financial and emotional freedom.

By the way, blame is one of ego’s greatest tools; no matter where it’s directed, it holds you back.

You choose how you react and feel.

Your now and future depend on it.

“When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don’t blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce.

Yet if we have problems with our friends or family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce.

Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument. That is my experience.

No blame, no reasoning, no argument, just understanding. If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change”

Exhausted? In Pain? Migraines?

December 12, 2022

We may feel tired or extremely fatigued from hard work or putting in long hours, but exhaustion comes from emotions. Exhaustion stems from suppressing worries, anger, fear, and concerns, often telling ourselves we’ll deal with them later. But we don’t. By stuffing and not looking at them, we emotionally sabotage ourselves.

Dragging ourselves home from work may result from not dealing with the stress of situations or associating with certain people. Exhaustion at home may occur by not wanting to admit what our feelings are trying to tell us and that something needs to change.

We can exhaust ourselves from not wanting to look at the reasons we feel pain or fear.

I was present at the moment a woman made a connection about her unfulfilling relationship with her father.  As a little girl, she regularly hit her head against the wall rather than face that emotional pain.

As an adult in her twenties, she no longer hit her head. Instead she had migraines. Although painful, migraines were easier for her to deal with than looking at the pain she felt from being emotionally abandoned by her father.

Note: Please continue to the end to read another perspective on migraines and exhaustion in the BONUS below.

People sometimes drive themselves through grueling physical activity, long work hours or constant busyness rather than looking at the pain and frustration they feel about negative experiences or things their parents did or didn’t do, revealing their personal bogeyman or why they tolerate intolerable situations and people now.

If you’re exhausted or in pain and torment yourself about how you feel because of it, you have a good excuse reason not to think, change your perspective and discover that there are better options available to you.

Here are examples of underlying fears that may drive you.

  • If I leave my job/ spouse, I won’t have enough money.
  • If I leave my church/ social circle, I’ll be all alone.
  • If I stop being so busy, I’ll have to slow down and look at what kind of a life I have – the people, circumstances, drama, unfulfilling work, my fears, my lack, my body, my very happiness and so on.

Another emotional payoff might include the sympathy and attention others give you. Pain, illness or exhaustion can become a badge of courage… “You’re exhausted from what you’re going through, you poor thing.”

Pain’s survival depends on part of us remaining unconscious. This is how it continues to hold power over us. This is what causes us to relive variations of emotionally charged situations repeatedly.

Because our spirit desires a release of unsupportive energy, we continue to attract similar situations (even if they suck). They serve as opportunities for us to wake up and be free.

If we avoid releasing unsupportive energy, we look to gain power elsewhere. We settle for jobs, relationships and unsatisfying lives. This is exhausting.

Had enough? Where are you losing your power? Who or what did you give your power to?

A first step to freedom is self-awareness, and sometimes it helps to ask for help to see our blind spots as well as learn new ways to release energy that doesn’t serve us.

BONUS!

MIGRAINES, EXHAUSTION and MORE

Alert: This may go against everything you believe to be helpful and good.

When we emotionally feel sorry for or bad about others going through challenges or try to save them from their suffering, we energetically tie into their pain. We plug our energy circuitry into their emotions and how they feel, aligning ourselves with their vibrational wavelength.

Any suffering we alleviate by doing this doesn’t help them to learn their lessons and actually holds them back.

Empaths (people who feel others’ feelings as if they are their own) can unconsciously take on others’ pain, illness, lack, confusion, stress, depression and fatigue. That kind of sensitivity can be exhausting.

Ever feel good and then drained after talking with certain people?

Here’s another consideration. Do you think someone is a headache or a pain in your neck or another part of your lower anatomy? Well, that literally can be what happens to you.

Are you struggling, stuck, have issues? Know someone around you that often feels the same? They may, for example, struggle in one way, you in another. It’s still struggling. Maybe you unintentionally took on what they’re going through.

A woman volunteered as a leader to help the homeless. While we talked she had a realization. Since riding in a car with others from her church and their negative chatter for a couple of hours to visit this community, she hadn’t closed one deal in six months! She decided to drive her own car and started closing deals.

Another example, people who don’t drink might be dealing with an alcoholic family member. However, both may be dealing with fear but coping in different ways. One drinks and the other lives in fears like expecting the worse to happen.

Look for similar feelings not identical circumstances.

Warning! If you try to share ideas before others are ready to understand, they can turn on you and make you the bad guy. People often filter information based on their past experiences and resist believing that another perspective is valid.

So how can you help? Be compassionate. Acknowledge them and where they’re at non-judgmentally. Communicate how you believe in them and their ability to get through their circumstances. But no pity, feeling sorry for them or meeting them at their emotional level of drama.

Again, you’re not uplifting others while feeling troubled about them. And you may be opening yourself to take on what they’re going through.

It works in reverse, too. Being around positive people aligns you vibrationally to live your personal and professional dreams.

Can What You Think Change Your Life?

June 20, 2022

The Thinker by Auguste Rodin

Your thoughts are powerful! That means if you look around at your life and either like or don’t like what you see, know that you can change it by changing the way you think.

Need inspiration to even consider something that may seem impossible? And why should you go to the bother of changing your thinking because you’re not sure if it will make a difference anyway?

Listen up. You 100% have the ability to look at things differently, change your perspective and therefore think differently about what’s going on in your life.

When you change how you think about things, your feelings about stuff will change, and you’ll act differently. You’ll take different actions. As a result, your experiences and outcomes will change.

It’s way better than suffering unnecessarily, feeling like you’re a victim, enduring constant pain, being cowered by fear, anger or worry, and any other miserable emotion you may feel you’re stuck with and can’t help.

How can you empower yourself and change your everyday life and future?

Consider these quotes from James Allen’s classic book As a Man Thinketh to inspire you to improve YOUR world. Italics are mine.

“All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts.”

“As he thinks, so he is; as he continues to think, so he remains.”

“A person is limited only by the thoughts that he chooses.”

“Let a man radically alter his thoughts, and he will be astonished at the rapid transformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life.”

“Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so shall he be.”

“Thoughts of doubt and fear never accomplished anything, and never can. They always lead to failure.”

Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the Law of his being.”

Following are more great quotes, especially for those who’ve ever been chastised for daydreaming by others who perhaps didn’t realize how all great ideas and manifestations start with a dreamer.

Everyone else follows in the shadow of someone’s dream or gets paid by people who had a vision and used their imagination to turn their dreams to reality.

Dream on. Create the life you choose.

  • “The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.”
  • The dreamers are the saviors of the world. As the visible world is sustained by the invisible, so men, through all their trials and sins and sordid vocations, are nourished by the beautiful visions of their solitary dreamers. Humanity cannot forget its dreamers; it cannot let their ideals fade and die; it lives in them; it knows them as the realities which it shall one day see and know. Composer, sculptor, painter, poet, prophet, sage, these are the makers of the after-world, the architects of heaven. The world is beautiful because they have lived; without them, laboring humanity would perish. He who cherishes a beautiful vision, a lofty ideal in his heart, will one day realize it. Columbus cherished a vision of another world, and he discovered it; Copernicus fostered the vision of a multiplicity of worlds and a wider universe, and he revealed it; Buddha beheld the vision of a spiritual world of stainless beauty and perfect peace, and he entered into it.”

You Don’t Have to Push Yourself Harder

February 8, 2021

What I’m about to tell you is opposite of what most of us learned is the way to achieve success.

Forget about:

  • No pain, no gain.
  • You have to work hard for what you want.
  • Put your nose to the grindstone.
  • Success requires sacrifice, suffering and struggle.

Beliefs like these often don’t create sustainable results that lead to a happy life. Furthermore, trying hard is exhausting.

When we align our positive energy first and then take inspired action with grace and ease, we can create better outcomes while feeling good, too.

A client, whose career is in the fitness industry, shared how his life is working better.

“I let go of pushing harder. I had the kind of personality to be hard on myself, more disciplined. It left me feeling out of control, especially about things I can’t do anything about.

“I had mind-numbing, self-critiquing all the time. I was looking for approval.

“Now I see how when I’m softer and centered, I’m in control. It’s easier to be in my own skin. People are more at ease around me because I’m more at ease with myself.

“I make choices moment-to-moment instead of worrying about the future and what others think.

“I catch myself a lot quicker instead of having long periods of anxiety. I chart my course by mentally creating my ideal scenario and letting go of the pushing.

“Week by week, this new way of living life is sinking in as I allow myself to go from efforting to grace and ease.

“I’ve reclaimed my natural power and feel myself evolving to my true potential as I achieve my goals.”

There was more joy, confidence and lightness in his voice as well.

You can tap into a zone where you won’t need to push yourself. By getting out of your own way, you can get more done with better results and even go beyond limits.

It starts by shifting from trying to relaxing into a flow of doing what you love.

Olympic athletes center and focus themselves before taking action. The winners go beyond worry and ride the wave of their event – even when changing winds seem to be against them. They’re at the right place at the right time to avoid the hazards.

You can, too.

Well, What Did You Expect?

January 18, 2021
Has life got you tied up in a knot? There are ways to free yourself – like untangling or cutting loose a cat who’s balled up in yarn.

By the way, just because the cat is stuck, there’s nothing wrong with it anymore than there’s anything wrong with you when you go through your challenges!

To help you unravel your stuckness and why it’s happening, here’s an excerpt from my program Soulgoals: A Step-by-Step Guide to Live Your Dreams… even if you failed before, lost hope, are afraid, stressed or confused.

A client who emailed a request to her mastermind team wrote, “I have calls out to people, but things seem stuck.” Her goal was well written and specific, including her filling appointments for three cities plus a meet and greet.

But I felt the fear under her request and called her. She told me she felt pressure because an out-of-state manager was flying in, and she didn’t have appointments scheduled.

We discussed anticipating the best and letting go of expectation. Part of this letting go was a preoccupation with numbers – the number of bookings. Instead, I recommended she focus on the quality of appointments vs. the quantity.

The next night she sent us a long email. “I woke up fresh and energetic, turned things over to my CEO (God)… I decided that I was not going to “push” to “make” anything happen.” [Her bold print]

Results? Before the end of that day, key people either returned her calls to book or called prospects on her behalf to fill the appointments for her! A big client contacted her to book four trainings. She hosted a successful event that afternoon plus found a perfect venue for a board member retreat following an unsuccessful month-long search.

If you hold onto how you expect life should be, what a person should do, or what’s supposed to fulfill you, you not only limit yourself but you block your success and create unnecessary pain and suffering.

It pulls you away from the present moment and foists you into an imagined future of potential disappointment, discouragement, frustration, sadness, anger, or helplessness.

Stop shoulding on yourself!

The beauty of the present moment is that it opens you to what’s in alignment with your soul. If one way doesn’t work, there’s a reason. Something better is available… if you allow it into your world.

Instead of longing for what mighta, woulda, coulda or shoulda been, notice the gift of accepting what is.

Anticipating the best instead of expecting specific outcomes makes you and your words more powerful and opens you to results designed for the highest and best interest for all.

It’s an important lesson, and I invite you to consider it in case it makes the difference between creating difficulties or catapulting you to greater success and abundance.

Well, what did you expect?

4 Ways to Get Unstuck… and how you create unnecessary pain and suffering

July 20, 2020

Feeling stalled out or stuck during Covid time? There are ways to free yourself – like untangling or cutting loose a cat who’s balled up in yarn. By the way, just because it’s stuck, there’s nothing wrong with the cat anymore than there’s anything wrong with you!

To help you unravel your stuckness, here’s an excerpt from my program Soulgoals: A Step-by-Step Guide to Live Your Dreams… even if you failed before, lost hope, are afraid, stressed or confused.

A client who emailed a request to her mastermind team wrote, “I have calls out to people, but things seem stuck.” Her goal was well written and specific, including her filling appointments for three cities and a meet and greet.

I felt the fear under her request and called her. She told me she felt pressure because an out-of-state manager was flying in, and she didn’t have appointments scheduled.

Results? Before the end of that day, key people either returned her calls to book or called prospects on her behalf to fill the appointments for her! A big client contacted her to book four trainings.

She hosted a successful event that afternoon plus found a perfect venue for a board member retreat following an unsuccessful month-long search.

If you hold onto how you expect life should be, what a person should do or act, or what’s supposed to fulfill you, you not only limit yourself but you block your success and create unnecessary pain and suffering.

Why? If things don’t turn out as you expected, you can get disappointed. However, if you set intentions but stop trying to control exactly how the outcomes should appear, you let go and let God.

Expectations can pull you away from the present moment and foist you into an imagined future of potential disappointment, discouragement, frustration, sadness, anger, or helplessness.

By not resisting, you open yourself energetically to infinite possibilities.

Anticipating the best instead of expecting specific outcomes makes your words more powerful and opens you to results designed for the highest and best interest for all. It’s an important lesson, and I invite you to consider it in case it’s making the difference between creating difficulties or catapulting you to greater success and abundance.

4 Ways to Get Unstuck

It’s important to identify where you feel stuck. Feeling stuck is an emotional response that can leave you feeling there’s no way out. Here are four alternatives that can help:

  1. You’re frustrated because you’re trying to control the outcome by expecting it (or people) to be the way you think it should. Alternative: Relax and anticipate this or something better will occur. Stop trying to micromanage the world. This opens you to tune into new ideas and directions.
  2. You’re beating yourself up with regrets or other limiting thoughts and emotions because of your situation. Alternative: Release judging you, others and your circumstances. Replace it with an empowering perspective that you’re learning, so is everyone else, and all is in divine order and timing.
  3. You’re focusing on how things aren’t working. Alternative: focus on what you choose and the good feeling mojo it creates. Good feeling mojo is what opens you to manifest more quickly and with grace and ease.
  4. You’re pushing to make things happen. Alternative: Stop resisting (and exhausting yourself about) what is and allow things to be the way they are. You getting fussy about it won’t change it or help. Let go. Let God. Set new goals for what you choose. Take action from this perspective.

Feeling stuck may be a clue that it’s time to change direction or attitude. You might have to let go of what you’re holding onto to make way for something even better!

When you shift your energy, you allow life to create miracles and successes beyond your wildest expectations.

What to Do When You DON’T Know What to Do

January 6, 2020

waterfall- rainbow

I felt like I backed myself into a corner.

I was running out of time to complete writing projects – and my deadline was already extended.

My cat kept me up half the night because she was sick.

I woke up with a debilitating headache because, when I eventually fell asleep, my head was in an awkward position.

I felt miserable.

Not able to focus on my business for a week because of my project.

Exhausted.

Then, it occurred to me that I’m creating this.

I forgot to consciously create my day through intention.

Instead, I focused on how I was going to get everything done.

I wondered about what I was going to do.

How I didn’t feel well.

And my approach wasn’t working. I felt stuck.

Then, I remembered.

I forgot to choose to be in Divine Flow.

When I did, I stopped pushing.

Took a nap.

Ideas came how I could resolve obstacles to complete my projects.

I started to feel better – physically and emotionally.

My feline friend felt better, too.

To explain what I mean by divine flow, here’s an excerpt from my program Soulgoals: A Step-by-Step Guide to Do What You Love… even if you failed before, lost hope, are afraid, stressed or confused.

“If you’re struggling or suffering, change your perspective. The struggle may come because you’re trying to control or swim upstream against the current.

“If the going gets tough, maybe you’re going in the wrong direction.

“Life is designed to be in divine flow. If you’re struggling or suffering, you’re going against the flow. Maybe you think you should be acting and thinking a certain way, but that’s actually what’s holding you back and putting you in a flow that’s other than divine. If you are, choose to be in divine flow; continue to choose this.

“Let go of how you think things should be so your focus can shift to the present moment and what is. Allow new perspectives and options to emerge.”

Spoiler alert: Your essential nature is divine, regardless if you feel and have acted like the lowest of lowest. Your essence (and everyone else’s) IS your true nature.

Today’s TIP is simple – for you to implement and for me to share.

Choose to be in divine flow.

It seems to defy logic that this can make it difference.

A few seconds of setting this intention, choosing a belief, sets your day in a positive direction.

You can do this at any time of the day, especially if things start getting wonky.

Observe how your life changes for the better.

You may notice how things change a lot or step-by-step.

Either way, instead of “if it’s not one thing, it’s another,” you shift your trajectory so the track you’re on is “things get better and better.”

Live the life you’re meant to enjoy.

How a Woman Was Asked to Take $15-$20,000

August 27, 2018

Plus 10 quotes from James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh

Money

A client decided to launch a non-profit in her industry. Her first event had around 50 people in attendance.

Ten years later, she has several chapters around the state along with a base of corporate connections.

Last month during her coaching session, we discussed the idea of getting underwriters at $13,000 each annually and how she could put together a brochure to announce this. A professional she considered hiring for this purpose suggested writing a personal letter to each prospective underwriter instead.

She did neither.

However, she mentioned her idea to a corporate leader and then, implementing tools she’s learned during my new Conscious Creators’ Course, she found herself thinking about her underwriters’ program throughout the month.

Do you remember a time when you were lovestruck and thoughts and feelings about the other would linger in the background or completely occupy your attention? That’s how it was for her. Her thoughts would go in and out about the program she was developing, sharing it with others, the difference it would make… and so it went throughout the month.

The day before last Thursday’s coaching session, she and the corporate leader talked again. In fact, they’d been playing phone tag for two weeks before their follow up conversation about becoming an underwriter.

“We want to give you $15,000 to $20,000. Please give us a reason, a justification. You don’t have to send an email, just a text.”

A short text to him after our session containing seed ideas for the program brought an affirmative response along with an appointment scheduled on Monday for follow up.

She approached this on an energy level first before taking action. The result was that money was being thrust on her with no effort on her part.

May you enjoy these quotes from James Allen’s classic book As a Man Thinketh to inspire you to attract results about what you love.

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so shall he be.”

“As he thinks, so he is; as he continues to think, so he remains.”

“A person is limited only by the thoughts that he chooses.”

“Let a man radically alter his thoughts, and he will be astonished at the rapid transformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life.

“Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.”

“All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts.”

“Thoughts of doubt and fear never accomplished anything, and never can. They always lead to failure.”

“Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the Law of his being.”

Following are great quotes especially for those who’ve ever been chastised for day dreaming by others who didn’t realize how all great ideas and manifestations start with a dreamer. Everyone else follows in the shadow of someone’s dream or gets paid by people who had a vision and used their imagination to turn their dreams to reality.

“The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.”

“The dreamers are the saviors of the world.

February 12, 2018
do it because you love it

What I’m about to tell you is opposite to what most of us learned is the way to achieve success.

Forget about:

  • No pain, no gain.
  • You have to work hard for what you want.
  • Put your nose to the grindstone.
  • Success requires sacrifice, suffering and struggle.

Beliefs like these often don’t create sustainable results nor do they lead to a happy life.
