TIP: Are Foolish Consistencies Keeping You Stuck?

November 28, 2016

“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” Ralph Waldo Emerson from his essay “Self-Reliance”
Are you thinking for yourself?Or are you making current choices based on past decisions or on what other people think?

Holding onto fixed ideas and not being open to new ones is an example of a foolish consistency, and it can keep you stuck.

A foolish consistency can affect your heart.

A man, who places a high value on keeping his word, made a promise to repair expensive equipment and gift it to a friend.

Personally, giving this gift meant a great deal to him.

After several months, he realized the equipment couldn’t be repaired.

He tried really hard to make the unworkable workable.

When he couldn’t, it meant he couldn’t keep his word and couldn’t give this gift, both of which caused him extreme, emotional stress.

He took this to heart.

He took a lot of things to heart.

Including a heart attack.

He let go of the foolish consistencies and now is doing great.

A foolish consistency can affect your goals.

Years ago, I had a plan of how I thought things should work.

First, I’d write my course, and then I’d buy a house.

What happened is that moving came first, and this allowed me to be in a better environment.

A foolish consistency would’ve been to insist on living in a space that wasn’t conducive to writing.

To this day, I’m careful not to be misled by my preconceived ideas, aka foolish consistencies, about what comes first and who’s on second.

See what life is presenting at the moment. New ways often exceed one’s wildest expectation about how things can work out.

A foolish consistency can affect your money.

In spite of her best efforts and through no fault of her credit report, a silly regulation stopped a woman from refinancing to get money she needed.

At first, she was disappointed.

Not being bogged down with a foolish consistency, she refocused her thinking on this or something better.

Her business skyrocketed, and she made $18,000 in one month (far exceeding her past, monthly incomes) with many more deals in her pipeline.

Little minds worry about a foolish consistency.

Greater minds align with the moment.

Your TIP is to use your great mind! Let go of your limiting, foolish consistencies, and be open to new ideas to receive what you want.

Challenge the way you think and usually do things, especially if you feel stuck or you’re trying to break free into something better.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.

If you’ve tried something new and you’re beating yourself up because it didn’t work the way you thought – stop it!

Getting down on yourself is not helping.

Give yourself a chance to align with a different track to success, and be open to receive something better.

Breathe. Listen within.

Your inner wisdom is 100% on your side to guide you from stuck to success.

Be willing to receive its messages.

I work with people who long to share their gifts or business in a BIGGER way but don’t know how or feel stuck. I help them ignite their Soul’s goals and be richly compensated doing what they love.

TIP: Miracles Happen – In Your Life, Too!

November 23, 2016

rio-2

“Miracles can happen always.”

That’s what a nine-year-old said after he ran to catch his nearly 30# baby brother who fell more than four feet from a changing table.

Joseph thought he was aided by divine intervention.

“I would have never caught him, and I can’t run that fast. So I felt like something came and just pushed me forward, and when that happened, I just ran and caught him.”

The moments-long miracle was caught on their security camera:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1spWDYJSXRs

The mother, who turned away only briefly, changed her perspective from what she did wrong to what she did right.

“I was just getting everyone ready for bed. I was home alone with the five kids, and at first I said, ‘I messed up. I did something wrong.’ But then I realized that, really, it was a miracle. I must have done something right to have been deserving of this little guy, running in at the right time and catching him at the right moment.”

Lesson 5 of my Resolved for Results program says this about miracles:

What is a miracle? A miracle is a positive outcome that you didn’t anticipate. It’s when you have no idea how things can work out, and then they do. It’s when results defy logic, and the impossible occurs. It’s when you’re touched by grace.

Miracles compel you to expand your consciousness and go beyond what you think is possible. They are reminders to trust in a friendly and supportive universe that assists you to create your life of choice.

Miracles come in all sizes.

A client and her daughter had ongoing conflicts between themselves.

While coaching, she realized that the fear and judgment she had about her daughter was alienating her.

In the past, she was more of the disciplinarian because she thought that was the best parenting style.

Now, she changed her perspective and approach.

She had an idea to text each of her two adult children separately and tell them how much she appreciates them as well as note their wonderful qualities.

“I love you. You are great. I’m grateful you’re alive…”

She realized that almost all of her fear about “what if” certain things happened to her children weren’t based on anything other than the negativity and drama in her head.

She also gave consideration to her reply when people ask, “How are you?”

Instead of good or fine, automatic responses that people mindlessly give as well as the way they robotically feel about themselves, she decided to say, “I am grateful.”

To change her lifelong habit of how she had been relating to her children, and to feel their positive responses, is a miracle.

We discussed a goal to highlight her intentions.

She doesn’t cook, and throughout her life she was a perfectionist who got anxious if things didn’t go just right.

Yet she longed to have a family dinner.

So we came up with a way for her to create one.

This morning, I received her email.

“I want to let you know that we had a great time last Friday. (She described the food everyone made.) It was a very festive dinner, and I didn’t even get uptight!

“Thank you for guiding me. I am breathing in divine flow and let out judgements and fears to get myself back on track.”

Your TIP, is to open to miracles happening in your life.

Imagine the iconic statue that overlooks Rio de Janeiro, the one found in the above photo, as representing an idea, regardless of your religion.

This omnipotent, omniscient, unconditionally loving and divine presence is watching out for you 24/7.

To experience miracles is to be willing to let go of your problems and worries and allow  yourself to receive something better.

Watch for the miracles in your life. They may be big or small.

Nothing is impossible.

You can receive what you choose or something better.

Happy, Miracle-full Thanksgiving. Happy giving thanks!

With gratitude,

Virginia

FEATURE: A Realtor Talks on Business and Her Mother’s Stage 4 Cancer

November 15, 2016

road

My client Melinda and I first met when I gave a training at her real estate office 11 years ago this month.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of watching her professional and personal growth – from a rookie with her “phone glued to her hip” out of concern she’d miss a call to becoming a top realtor to the story you’re about to read.

During a 1:1 coaching call, I was so impressed by her wisdom, perspective and success that emerged during her year of challenges that I asked if I could share my notes from her session with you. Her words are italicized in blue.

Considering how much I’ve been out of the office, this year has been fantastic!

Her mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Much of their year was scheduled around appointments that lasted many days at a time over many months at MD Anderson Cancer Center which is a four-hour drive each way.

While many would feel at the mercy of this experience, Melinda proactively designed hers.

I want things to happen on my time, when and how I choose them to happen.

At first, this sounds like a bold statement. Actually, she was applying principles and techniques she learned.

To begin with, they make the trips fun and something to enjoy by going to museums, restaurants and visiting family. They even celebrated her mother being cancer-free on a three-week vacation.

During the summer I thought I was having a bad year. However, 2016 is turning out to be a pretty good year. And I feel rested.

When we do trips to MD, we do a lot to make it an adventure and not a chore.

I’m focusing on my mother, taking care of me, getting my rest, doing business – but not killing myself over it.

I’m listening to my body. The world’s not going to come to an end if we’re not rushing around and stressing ourselves to the max. I’m choosing life. I’m creating memories and adventure.

I don’t feel like I have to prove myself to be a success.

Instead, she’s making a point to live her life.

Melinda and I previously had talked about what we do in the “dash.”

The dash (-)  is our life, what happens in between Date of Birth – Date of Passing that’s found on a headstone.

I’m adding to the dash.

When her mother’s regular treatments were almost completed, her father was hospitalized.

In the midst of medical confusion while in the hospital, he unexpectedly passed away.

She was able to put these experiences, including taking care of her finances in the midst of all this, in perspective.

Based on peace and faith – God gives me whatever I need. He’s always provided.

I’ve got someone looking out for me, and it’s always worked.

When you do that, you let go of that other garbage (fear).

This is the biggest shift for me this year.

I know of people who’ve died in a car accident. Things like that and dealing with my parents, in the big scheme of things, the petty things we get involved with … does it really matter?

There’s a lot of drama in the world now. People’s issues are coming up. The part of the clarity I’ve had is, why wig out on all this stuff?

Sometimes I sit back while looking at this drama and think “Really? You’re getting upset about that?”

People see me as calm, laid back and that I’m sure and confident. But I think some of my being calm is not getting all wrapped up in the drama.

The more you focus on you HAVE to accomplish something, it runs away from you.

When I started in real estate, I felt pressure to succeed. I noticed during times like these, I received fewer or no phone calls.

Then I would go for a drive, and the phone would ring.

Why? Because I let go.

Same thing happens when Realtors leave town. They let go, and that’s why they start receiving business just before or during a vacation.

This year has been about letting go. This brings peace. With these two things, I get clarity.

As we wrapped up our session, Melinda summed up our conversation by responding to questions I asked.

  • With clarity you add depth to the dash. You can create life to be whatever you choose.
  • Having faith and believing are keys as well.
  • How this applies to my life is that by letting go of the fear, I was forced to be in the present moment. By being in the moment I was able to enjoy the moment and add depth to my life.
  • Being in the present moment, we did fun things so life didn’t get us down and be negative – like going to a museum.
  • Before all this, I would talk to a co-worker as a sounding board… and really just complain and whine about things.
  • By letting go, in the big scheme of things – are things really that earth shattering and important?  You can see that drama adds stress and negativity.
  • About business, I found that it looked like I didn’t care and have the drive. No, I still care, but I choose quality of life vs. running myself ragged and getting involved in the hoopla.
  • My experiences this year helped me be in Divine Flow and use the Law of Attraction.  It’s helped me in business to manifest. Two $630,000+ deals came out of the blue.
  • About my finances, I feel very blessed. It goes back to belief that God always takes care of me, and money’s going to come. With all I had going on this year, I still was able to make significant financial gains and have fun.
  • We can get so tied up with everything, we forget to be grateful. And I am very, very grateful.
  • I was getting wrapped up in the pressure of things aren’t good enough. I forgot how we’re programmed for that. So instead I went back into how we’re always provided for, and it brings gratitude.
  • Then you don’t have the heaviness and instead feel lighter and happier.

I told her that she now KNOWS her intentions create what she sees in her life because what she set as part of her goals this year has been happening:

She’s had more fun, more time off, got off the cycle of fear and stress when she redirected her focus to family…  and had a very good year in business.

May you find some inspiration in Melinda’s story to create the life and business you choose.

God and a universal energy have everything in control.

Nobody and nothing outside of you determines your success and happiness.

It’s up to you to empower yourself from within and not give your power away to others, including those in powerful positions, or circumstances.

TIP: The Four Tops and The Temptations – Wow!

November 8, 2016

img_0104

“Are you feeling alright? Oh yeah. Put your hands together.”

With horns blaring to their harmonies and synchronized moves, the Temptations delivered a non-stop, high energy performance, starting with “Get Ready” along with favorites like “My Girl” and “Just My Imagination.”

Both groups played full out, giving their all.

The magic took off at another level when the Four Tops came on stage: “Feel it. Feel it.” And we did.

Abdul Fakir, the only original of the Four Tops who’s still with us, turns 81 on December 26! No way he looked or acted that on stage!! He’s on the far right of the photo.

Roquel, the son of Lawrence Payton who was one of the original Four Tops, has got the moves! He’s on the far left.

Abdul talked about the joy, celebration and positive energy of members of the Four Tops who’ve passed. Their energy lives on.

For their encore, we were all on our feet shouting along with “I Can’t Help Myself” (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch).

Hearing the old songs and seeing the dancing brought us back in a time machine. Everyone had memories.

My earlier life flashbacks during the back to back performances, and set up time in between, nudged me into a mini life review.

That’s where I was when their music played. I went through being an adult. Now I’m here.

What happened in between?

When you look back at your life, what do you see?

No matter what you’ve done or haven’t done, here you are now.

There are ups and downs (by the way, everyone has them not just you), but they change.

One time you’re surrounded by those people, another time you’re not.

Your livelihood and circumstances altered.

When you look back, you can see everything that didn’t work, who done you wrong, your mistakes and unfulfilled dreams.

However…

You can see another timeline, too – who you helped and helped you, what you learned, who you became along the way and visions for your future.

No matter what perspective you choose, you cannot fail at life.

There are no angels with clipboards keeping a tally of judgment on you. That’s a human invention.

You are divinely loved and accepted for who you are – a brave Soul who showed up on this planet, learning and growing.

Just like a baby isn’t judged for falling while learning to walk, neither are you while you’re learning.

While freeing yourself from self-judgment, consider this.

Think about a time in your life, let’s say ten or twenty years ago.

What you experienced felt like your never-ending world. Then it passed or morphed into something different.

Now you’re here in this now.

What you think, feel and envision now are creating what’s to come.

How clear is your vision because it’s your blueprint for your life and business that’s yet to come?

Your TIP is to create your life or business to be Wow!

Care enough about yourself to be happy and do what you love instead of what you think the world expects of you.

Decades ago, while in a very sad situation, I had a dream. “Find your heart and rescue it.”

One way you can do this is to honor yourself and your feelings. What are they guiding you to do?

If you feel unhappy, unfulfilled, unhealthy or your business or finances are bringing you down (not enough time, money, feeling good about you – or can’t get no satisfaction), that’s called a clue!

It’s time for a change – do something differently!

Your past is behind you.

In the now, are you being kind to yourself? Are you doing what you love?

Is your business or life what you choose?

If it isn’t, in Star Trek lingo, are you on a trajectory to “make it so, Number One”?

Your happiness, health and finances depend on it.

Regardless of your answer, you can make new decisions.

You’re still breathing, so it’s not too late to change your viewpoint, make new choices and do what you love.

Regardless of your age or circumstances, you have more than enough time to have your life and business be a series of Wows!

TIP: Ignite Your Passion

November 1, 2016

img_4005

What turns you on?

Do you dutifully go through day-to-day living?

Are you simply trying to make the best of your lot in life or do you complain about it and others?

Or do you know that, if you allow yourself to redirect your focus, your life can be sensational?

A few minutes ago, I returned from a tango performance by an Argentinian dance company.

The audience was wild with excitement.

The precision talent of the dancers, singers and musicians was inspiring.

However, unlike most everyone who watched, it didn’t ignite my passion.

If you’ve read my TIPS lately, you know I’ve attended several performances that sent me soaring.

The common denominator is that each uplifted me. Coupled with extraordinary talent, I walked away smiling a big YES to life.

Here’s what I noticed doesn’t turn me on.

Watching a drunk destroy his life and lose his disheartened woman after causing her misery.

Forcing a woman to be with him against her will – even dragging her.

Rivalry, jealousy and an uncaring spirit.

People being mean and cold to each other.

Violent knife fights.

Yes, this is art, and, of course, there’s freedom of expression.

Perhaps this was all to make a point to demonstrate consequences.

Yes, worse exists in this world.

Personally, I don’t find watching these uplifting or life-affirming.

The energy we fill ourselves with – drama or joy or fear – is what we’ll find mirrored in daily life, too.

I’ve learned a secret.  It’s why some succeed and others struggle.

The secret is found in what you focus on and how it makes you feel.

If you focus on misery and what makes you feel bad, you attract misery in your life.

Focusing on what makes you feel good brings you more things that make you feel good.

A friend told me that she’s turning into her mother – complaining.

The result? My friend felt depressed and hopeless.

She said she was whining and wine-ing too much.

Her mother died of cancer in her fifties. She believes her attitudes ate away at her, just like the cancer.

My friend woke up to what she was doing and made a decision to choose life – change her own attitude; watch what she was putting in her body; take care of herself better; focus on her goals and dreams instead of her limiting situation.

Focusing on negatives or mediocrity can keep you stuck.

You can focus on the bad and the ugly or the good and beautiful.

Remember, where your attention goes, energy flows. You’ll create more of the same.

If you focus on what makes you happy, your life is waay more enjoyable, too.

Feeling good is the master key to manifest the life and business of your dreams.

Life sucks for everyone at times. But where you focus and how you respond is a CHOICE.

Your TIP is to identify one or more things that ignite your passion… and go for it.

Yeah, yeah. You’re busy and have a lot of responsibilities. You gotta make money. You gotta do a lotta things. You really don’t have time. You feel exhausted. Others are depending on you.

You are depending on you, too!

This is your life. What are you doing to enjoy it?

What are you doing to take care of yourself?

What turns you on?

The company of supportive people who unconditionally care about you is a godsend.

This is one of the benefits of our mastermind teams.

For me, I love what I do helping people do what they love so their dreams come true.

And I believe my passion will be ignited when later this week I see The Temptations and The Four Tops in concert. I’ll let you know on my next TIP.
