Do You Doubt Yourself?

March 14, 2022

A mastermind team did an exercise that included prioritizing personal and professional goals, identifying obstacles, followed by strategies to overcome each one. If there was a roadblock, what could they do about it?

Procrastination was a big obstacle. Many delays were due to questioning themselves.

** Are they capable?
** Are they good enough?
** Are they doing the right thing?

Avoidance happened when their goals involved new activity and knowledge that differed from how they’d done things in the past. They were growing their businesses in new ways, which meant doing things they’d never done before. The same was true for doing different things in their personal lives.

Venturing into an arena unknown to them brought on self-doubt, which immobilized them from moving forward.

When going outside the known and our comfort zone, when choosing to take ourselves to another level, it’s likely new tools and skills will be needed. This has nothing to do with not being good enough or a reason to be afraid of rejection!

Once we get over our “yes, buts,” “you don’t understand,” “I was told this is the way it is (or I am),” “there’s nothing that can be done” and countless other reasons we try to legitimize why we do things the way we’ve always done, new solutions can appear.

The answers to get you through any challenges live within you.

You’ll get pointed in a direction, a direct insight will come, you’ll overhear something by chance… or somehow your personal, internal GPS will show you the way.

Pay attention to your inner nudges. They provide clues.

Be open to step back and see things in a new perspective. The seemingly impossible may actually be possible with a different approach.

Niels Bohr, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922, wrote:

“Every great and deep difficulty bears in itself its own solution. It forces us to change our thinking in order to find it.”

Bohr, who contributed to understanding atomic structure and quantum theory, tapped into his creativity to use outside-the-box-thinking, which allowed him to be part of breakthrough discoveries.

Expand your territory. Change your perspective. Open to breakthroughs.

You are more powerful than you think you are.

Believe in yourself… just a little bit more!

“God, How Could You Do This to Me!”

March 4, 2019

Could bad things that happen not actually be bad?

Recently, I found “Is Your Hut Burning?” in a 1999 email I saved, author unknown. Perhaps it may help you put some things in perspective, regardless of how they look… and that God and the universe have everything in control.

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions.

But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. “God, how could you do this to me!” he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. “How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn’t lose heart because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground… it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God.

11 Inspirational Quotes on Success & Your Dreams by Paulo Coelho

August 20, 2018

coelho

In the first week of its release in 1988, only one person bought a copy from a local bookseller of the now classic The Alchemist by Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho. One more copy was bought from that same person six months later. After one year, his publisher cancelled Coelho’s contract. He was 41 and desperate.

However, this living legend never lost faith in his dream or his book, in spite of ingrained beliefs. He writes in his introduction, “we are told from childhood that everything we want to do is impossible. We grow up with this idea, and as the years accumulate, so too do the layers of prejudice, fear, and guilt. There comes a time when our personal calling is so deeply buried in our soul as to be invisible. But it’s still there.”

Despite defeats and his fears, he went from one publisher to the next, and his book was picked up by U.S. publisher HarperCollins. After a time, President Bill Clinton was photographed with a copy. Julia Roberts commented about The Alchemist during an interview for Vanity Fair magazine. With acclaims from Rush Limbaugh to Will Smith, The Alchemist became a phenomena. The book hit a milestone by being on the New York Times bestseller list for over 300 weeks and is now an international bestseller translated into more than 80 languages.

As Coelho describes in the Introduction, “A man sets out on a journey, dreaming of a beautiful or magical place, in pursuit of an unknown treasure. At the end of his journey, he realizes the treasure was within him the entire time.”

Each year, hundreds of thousands walk the Camino in Spain or Portugal. I became enchanted with this quest in another of his international bestsellers The Pilgrimage, a novel that blends adventure with self-mastery.

Regardless if you choose to fulfill your heart’s desire or enjoy better health, a loving relationship, financial prosperity or happiness, may you be inspired to live your dream!

Enjoy these quotes by Paulo Coelho.

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

“Don’t give in to your fears. If you do, you won’t be able to talk to your heart.”

“Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.”

“Don’t waste your time with explanations: people only hear what they want to hear.”

“If you want to be successful, you must respect one rule – Never lie to yourself.”

“When I had nothing to lose, I had everything. When I stopped being who I am, I found myself.”

“There is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth.”

“One day you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now.”

Let Go of Ghosts

June 5, 2017
mountain bike ghost

A mountain biker rode on a trail she’d been on at least 50 times. During some of those rides, she’d fallen and hurt herself. Because of this history, she was haunted by what the biking community calls “ghosts.” She remembered the injuries, where the obstacles are located that caused her pain and avoided them.

Her experience changed, though, when she did this very same trail with a group of riders who traveled this way for the first time, including a woman who’s a national champion, and were decades younger.

Not having negative memories, they tackled the trail with abandon.

While riding she said to herself, “Let’s pretend I haven’t been on this trail before.”

It was a whole new experience. She quickly rode over obstacles that she’d been avoiding and was unscathed. Didn’t fall down. Didn’t get hurt.

She told me that it’s the same in business.

Don’t let old ghosts from the past, which cause you to hesitate, get in the way of taking action and being successful.

Let go of the bad experiences.

What ghosts can you let go so you can tackle your life, business or work with abandon?

Find a way to create positive momentum so you get through without giving them a second thought.

With gratitude, Virginia

This Abba Song Can Change Your Future

February 20, 2017

fantasy-angel

You weren’t meant to do this trip, multiple orbits of 365 days around the sun, alone.

To start your journey, a Supreme Being didn’t say, “Check it out, and tell me about it when you get back.”

There is support beyond what your physical eyes can see now.

You may wonder why I’m writing about this and how it’s relevant to your business/work and life.

Several people I talked with this week had challenges. Some nearly unbearable.

Can you relate? I know how tough that can feel because I’ve been there, too.

Like them, whatever’s currently going on in your life or business/work is a consequence of your old thoughts and feelings.

How could you possibly have set up something unpleasant for yourself?

No, I’m not trying to throw salt on a wound. The idea is for you to understand how you created the good, the bad and the ugly in your life so you can transform your future.

Intentionally or unconsciously, your energy attracts similar energy. For example, if you felt frustrated in the past, you will continue to attract frustrating situations. This would bring you to your current and potentially future frustration.

Now is your big moment because you can change the direction you’re heading.

Observe how you typically react. Do you emotionally respond the same way but find that you’re gong nowhere fast?

Your responses and subsequent results are like you running on a hamster wheel – repeating the same emotional patterns such as despair, frustration, depression, helplessness, confusion, anger, worry, lack or joy, peace, self-confidence, abundance and courage.

You can continue to react the same way you’ve always done.

OR you can find a way to stop going in circles by responding to life in more constructive ways. Where there’s “something good in everything” you see.

So what’s this got to do with Abba?

Last week, I wrote “The Best Place To Find Love” and shared my experience of helping a senior citizen get home. Because I took the time to do this, I thought I forfeited a front row seat at a concert. However, in spite of the room being halfway full, my prime seat was waiting for me.

What I didn’t tell you is that a song was running through my head so much that, after I dropped him off at his house, I played it on YouTube while driving.

It was Abba’s “I Have A Dream,” and by focusing on the words and concepts, my future changed and so can yours.

If you see the wonder of a magical fairy tale, then your power of imagination can take the future. It doesn’t matter if you’ve failed or not. Your past and present circumstances don’t matter.

Your dream, although it can seem like a fantasy, will not only help you cope with anything and help you through reality, it will help you push through the darkness.

When you focus on your dreams, the destination you envisioned becomes your reality and will make your efforts worth the while.

Your vision will help you cross over any obstacle.

There are angels to help you along the way. Some have a physical presence. Most are unseen energies rooting for you, having your back, playing the role of master organizers so your dreams can come true.

“I believe in angels,” and I strongly felt that a front row seat was saved for me.

And when my intention was to increase my income to satisfy specific goals, new business came out of the blue.

These ideas can change your future.

You’re not alone.

Allow yourself to have a dream and let it push you through… anything.

Believe in yourself and your dreams.

The time is right for you.

The destination is worth your while.

Below are the lyrics and link to Abba’s “I Have A Dream.”

I Have A Dream by Abba

I have a dream, a song to sing

To help me cope with anything

If you see the wonder of a fairy tale

You can take the future even if you fail

I believe in angels

Something good in everything I see

I believe in angels

When I know the time is right for me

I’ll cross the stream – I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy

To help me through reality

And my destination makes it worth the while

Pushing through the darkness still another mile

I believe in angels

Something good in everything I see

I believe in angels

When I know the time is right for me

I’ll cross the stream – I have a dream

TIP: 3 Questions to Raise Your Bar in 2016

February 23, 2016

Raise your standards

A few days ago, Raise Your Bar in 2016 was the theme for a mastermind group I facilitated.

Later, a team member called to say that the meeting was exalted. “I felt like I elevated 3′ or so.”

Having only thought about this word at Christmas, I asked what she meant. She texted a Merriam-Webster definition. Exalt: to raise (someone or something) to a higher level; to praise (someone or something) highly; to present (something) in a way that is very favorable or too favorable.

When:

  •  you’re inspired
  •  you see yourself succeeding
  •  you believe you have and can do what it takes
  •  you feel the energy move within you
  •  you have a plan of action
  •  you know there’s a team of people around you who give you unconditional love
  •  you feel their support…

Then:

  • you’re open to receive success
  • you’re motivated to take effective action
  • you’re in the right place at the right time
  • you enjoy your road to victory
  • you (finally) achieve results in your business and life for which you’ve longed.

A large part of her feeling elevated came from the mastermind energy.

To explain what I mean, here’s an excerpt from the manual of my program Resolved for Results: A Step-by-Step Guide to Live Your Dreams… even if you failed before, lost hope, are afraid, stressed or confused.

“Napoleon Hill introduced the term masterminding in the early 1900s in his classic book Think and Grow Rich as: ‘the coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people for the attainment of a definite purpose.’

“How does this work?

“‘No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind.'”

You can get results working alone. However, when you tap into a vortex of positive energy when two or more are gathered together in harmony and intentional purpose, miracles and successes blossom like spring flowers.

TIP: 3 Questions to Raise Your Bar in 2016

Would you enjoy an exalted business and life?

Answer these questions to put you on a trajectory of success. Writing by hand versus just thinking about the answers allows for more insights and ideas to emerge.

1. What would raising your bar for your business and life in 2016 look like?

2. What would have to occur to allow this?

3. What do you need to release for this to happen?

What to do next?

  • Schedule your actionable ideas on your calendar.
  • Set an intention to implement them.
  • Find positive partners or a team to discuss your answers, provide weekly support for you to be accountable and encourage you to either stay on track or course correct, if necessary.
  • Let go of what’s holding you back using any release techniques that have worked for you.

Believe that life is working in your favor… because it is!

GET A ROUND TUIT

September 30, 2013

You haven’t heard from me for a while because I’ve been focusing on my mastermind groups, having fun and  a whirlwind of completions. You know, those pesky nags that remind you of unfinished business.

Years ago, I attended a lecture by the late Zig Ziglar where he gave us his business card  – a  wooden, round TUIT. Translated: get around to it. Stop procrastinating and take action.

Recently, my eyes opened to the big picture of what I’d been tolerating. The broken blinds – hey, they worked if I didn’t raise them. The dangling coat hanger because I didn’t install the molly bolts correctly. The clusters of daddy long legs that resided on my porch and invaded my house when the door opened. Half the burners on my stove not heating well, etc., etc. It was time for change.

The mailbox looks great even though I sanded it with the sandpaper inside out.

My mailbox I refinished looks great even though I didn’t know what I was doing.

I found that projects often come with obstacles and learning curves. Wasn’t I surprised to discover, while proudly using my electric hand sander for the first time, that I refinished my weather-beaten, wooden mailbox with the sandpaper attached inside out. It turned out great anyway.

I asked questions only to find that many “experts” give crazy advice and don’t know what they’re talking about but act like they do. However, my intentions eventually drew the right people and solutions to me. I continue to tackle projects in spite of my ignorance. I learn and then I’m no longer clueless on those subjects. Not knowing what to do no longer stops me for long.

I’m motivated because stuff left undone as well as unresolved history drain energy making it challenging to focus on goals. Plus, results feel great.

Make room for your destiny. Courageously take action. Throw out your holey undies; no, they’re not sacred. Connect with folks you’ve been meaning to contact. Clearing space in your head and environment releases a power for your dreams to come true.

Believe in you. You don’t have to know how to manifest your goals or even what they are.  If you have that gut feeling that now-is the-time-for-change, then now is the time to get around TUIT.

If you choose to receive support, coaching, direction, focus and clarity, my Resolved for Results course is a game-changer to create results beyond your wildest imagination. www.ResolvedForResults.com

I am grateful to support your choices and see you receiving them!
