This Couldn’t Have Happened at a Worse Time

February 27, 2017

James Dick

There I was sitting so close to the piano that, if we both leaned forward, I could touch the hands of internationally renowned concert pianist James Dick. This man of great “talent, vision and class,” is a highly acclaimed competition winner and the founder of the Round Top Festival Institute in Round Top, Texas.

I watched in awe as his fingers nimbly danced across the keyboard while he played mostly by memory. He invoked in his audience indescribable emotions. As a woman who sat next to me said, “We can go a hundred places while listening to that.”

He played a selection by Chopin inspired by a Polish Christmas carol. Softly, sweetly, endearingly.

I was deep in the soul of the music, which touched my heart and ancient memories.

The audience was in quiet reverence, listening.

Then I had to cough. It wasn’t a simple cough. It was like what happens when you swallow something and it goes down the wrong pipe.

During this still and sacred moment, I quickly left parading next to James Dick, coughing my way in front of the mirrors and the entire audience while wearing my bright, yellow shirt.

At the end of the program, I had an opportunity to talk with him. He graciously allowed me to take pictures, too.

First, I asked why he pauses before he plays each musical segment.

“I quiet myself and focus.”

Next came my apology for disturbing his performance and walking next to him in the middle of his playing hushed tones.

After a brief reflection he calmly replied, “I didn’t notice.”

FOCUS.

The man lives and breathes focus. He’s mastered his art so much that he didn’t even notice big distractions!

A couple of my clients are involved with sports that require focus, too.

While kayaking, Melinda told me that if you focus on what to avoid, you’ll hit it. If you focus on where you’re going, you’ll go there.

In mountain biking, Michele told us during a mastermind team meeting that if you focus on obstacles, like the rocks and bumps you go over, you’ll fall. She said that it’s amazing how when you keep your gaze in front of you, where you’re heading, the obstacles don’t effect you and you keep going.

Your life, business, work and finances reflect what you consistently focus on, think about, talk about, complain about, imagine and enjoy – whether you want that thing or not.

In my Resolved for Results program, there’s a segment called Focus on the Donut and not the Hole:

“One group member said, ‘We’re trained to focus on worry. Now I’m retraining my focus on what I choose instead.'”

What’s in your focus? It may be a key to what’s in your wallet and happiness!

With gratitude,

Virginia

P.S. Know someone who might enjoy focusing on focus (or a lack of it)? You’re welcome to share this post.

I work with people who choose clarity and to share their gifts or business in a BIGGER way but don’t know how, feel stuck or would benefit from new tools or support. I help them ignite their Soul’s goals and be richly compensated doing what they love.

This Abba Song Can Change Your Future

February 20, 2017

fantasy-angel

You weren’t meant to do this trip, multiple orbits of 365 days around the sun, alone.

To start your journey, a Supreme Being didn’t say, “Check it out, and tell me about it when you get back.”

There is support beyond what your physical eyes can see now.

You may wonder why I’m writing about this and how it’s relevant to your business/work and life.

Several people I talked with this week had challenges. Some nearly unbearable.

Can you relate? I know how tough that can feel because I’ve been there, too.

Like them, whatever’s currently going on in your life or business/work is a consequence of your old thoughts and feelings.

How could you possibly have set up something unpleasant for yourself?

No, I’m not trying to throw salt on a wound. The idea is for you to understand how you created the good, the bad and the ugly in your life so you can transform your future.

Intentionally or unconsciously, your energy attracts similar energy. For example, if you felt frustrated in the past, you will continue to attract frustrating situations. This would bring you to your current and potentially future frustration.

Now is your big moment because you can change the direction you’re heading.

Observe how you typically react. Do you emotionally respond the same way but find that you’re gong nowhere fast?

Your responses and subsequent results are like you running on a hamster wheel – repeating the same emotional patterns such as despair, frustration, depression, helplessness, confusion, anger, worry, lack or joy, peace, self-confidence, abundance and courage.

You can continue to react the same way you’ve always done.

OR you can find a way to stop going in circles by responding to life in more constructive ways. Where there’s “something good in everything” you see.

So what’s this got to do with Abba?

Last week, I wrote “The Best Place To Find Love” and shared my experience of helping a senior citizen get home. Because I took the time to do this, I thought I forfeited a front row seat at a concert. However, in spite of the room being halfway full, my prime seat was waiting for me.

What I didn’t tell you is that a song was running through my head so much that, after I dropped him off at his house, I played it on YouTube while driving.

It was Abba’s “I Have A Dream,” and by focusing on the words and concepts, my future changed and so can yours.

If you see the wonder of a magical fairy tale, then your power of imagination can take the future. It doesn’t matter if you’ve failed or not. Your past and present circumstances don’t matter.

Your dream, although it can seem like a fantasy, will not only help you cope with anything and help you through reality, it will help you push through the darkness.

When you focus on your dreams, the destination you envisioned becomes your reality and will make your efforts worth the while.

Your vision will help you cross over any obstacle.

There are angels to help you along the way. Some have a physical presence. Most are unseen energies rooting for you, having your back, playing the role of master organizers so your dreams can come true.

“I believe in angels,” and I strongly felt that a front row seat was saved for me.

And when my intention was to increase my income to satisfy specific goals, new business came out of the blue.

These ideas can change your future.

You’re not alone.

Allow yourself to have a dream and let it push you through… anything.

Believe in yourself and your dreams.

The time is right for you.

The destination is worth your while.

Below are the lyrics and link to Abba’s “I Have A Dream.”

I Have A Dream by Abba

I have a dream, a song to sing

To help me cope with anything

If you see the wonder of a fairy tale

You can take the future even if you fail

I believe in angels

Something good in everything I see

I believe in angels

When I know the time is right for me

I’ll cross the stream – I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy

To help me through reality

And my destination makes it worth the while

Pushing through the darkness still another mile

I believe in angels

Something good in everything I see

I believe in angels

When I know the time is right for me

I’ll cross the stream – I have a dream

Not Good Enough in La La Land

February 6, 2017

dream-bigger

Do you know the #1 issue for everyone on the planet?

It even showed up in the #1 nominated movie La La Land when a main character lost all confidence before going for the BIG dream – exhausted from trying, past rejections and feeling positive it wouldn’t work.

At some point, it’s had a starring role in your life, too.

It’s what prevents you from believing in yourself.

It’s hounded you to despair and disappointment creating doubt, anger, fear, lack, anxiety and every limitation.

No, you’re not the only one who thinks other people’s lives are better and, after objective and/or emotional comparison, you reached the conclusion there’s something’s wrong with you.

This is the #1 issue.

You feel you’re not good enough, and you have living proof because (fill in the blank of how you feel you and your life are messed up).

“Not good enough” is only a program in your head that was put there a while ago – when you were a little kid.

This is NOT you.

It’s just a program, and it can be changed!

What does it look like when your software program produces this error message?

Here are some ways people have tried to bolster their spirits to find peace, feel good and create success. You’ve probably used some of these well-worn strategies, too, only to find you’re basically in the same place you started.

Do any of these fixes sound familiar?

  • Trying to control situations or others and getting upset or anxious when it doesn’t work. Trying to control means you feel out of control. You can feel frustrated if things don’t go the way you think they should. After a while, you can give up and might go into depression because this fix has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.
  • Wanting others’ approval by people pleasing; looking for self-worth by rescuing others; holding yourself back because of what others might think; or stuffing your emotions and desires. Dream big? Forget it. Too risky.
  • Feeling insecure because you don’t have enough love, money, health, respect, direction, time, contacts, etc. Playing it safe seems like a good reason to hold yourself back, but you can end up unfulfilled where even you get bored with yourself.
  • Feeling bad about you, what you’ve accomplished, what you’re doing and your future prospects. Oh, what’s the use of trying. Bingo – you’re chasing your tail and going nowhere.
  • Playing the victim so others feel sorry for you even though you sincerely express you don’t want them to and you’re not a victim… but silently craving that someone will make all your problems go away.

What’s a key to break free?

Breaking free is an inside job. Nobody can save you but you. Begin by changing your perspective.

You’ve been looking for love in all the wrong places.

Shift your focus to what you have instead of what you don’t have.

Instead of the agonizing feeling of wanting what you don’t have, recognize the feelings of love, safety and fulfillment you long for are already within you.

You can’t move a car forward and backwards at the same time without spinning in circles.

Likewise, you can’t have and want at the same time.

When you shift your focus to what you have, you’ll discover you are more than enough.

When your energy aligns with this feeling, you can write your ticket to success.

Shift happens!

Feeling you’re not enough is simply a habit.

To help you shift gears, write daily 10-15 things you’re grateful for.

Shifting takes practice, but you’re more than capable of changing your perspective.

Invest a few minutes daily to focus on how things are working out for you.

Size doesn’t matter – got out of bed, conquered fear of calling a client, landed a promotion. Any acknowledgement will help you change your habit so you feel better about you as you rewrite the trash talk that goes on in your head.

Change your energy, change your life.

Bring on your dreams, and dream BIGGER!

The Voice in Your Head Lies

February 1, 2017
doll-with-colored-hair

Even if you appear coordinated and that your life fits together, what’s going on in your thinking might leave you feeling like a shell with a confused head.

Or maybe you’ve been telling yourself that your life is a mess no matter which way you look at it.

Or you feel blessed that all is well, but you wonder how to elevate your set point to a higher altitude you’ve never experienced before.

Conflicting voices in your head can torment you.

Do any of these sound familiar?

You and nothing you do is good enough. What’s wrong with you? You’re never going to get ahead. You screwed up, again. What a loser. What makes you think anything’s gonna change? It’s not going to work, so why chance it? You’ve tried before and you remember how bad it turned out, so what’s the use of trying again? You oughta be a lot further ahead than where you are now… especially at your age.

There are countless ways to beat yourself up.

What if a “friend” said things to you like this, on and on and on?

For a while, you might feel immobilized – how could you do anything with this weight on you?

Why bother taking action? With the wind taken out of your sails, you’re left with no energy.

Instead, procrastinate. Lose interest.  Be indecisive. Watch too much TV. After all, you might make another mistake. Play it safe. Do nothing.

Another option is feeling vengeful and lashing out against the world. How dare they?! How can you do this to me?

Or be arrogant and proud. They think they’re all that and then some. Well, I’ll put them in their place.

When you snapped out of your stupor from getting way too many demoralizing hits below the belt, you’d either want to leave, give them a piece of your mind or shorten any air time you’d give them.

You don’t have to put up with this from others. Most importantly, you don’t have to put up with badgering thoughts that are on instant replay in your brain!

How can you stop the momentum of that train on its way to become a wreck?

When you stop to listen to the conversation in your head and observe it, you might notice something very important.

It lies. That negativity is not the truth.

Do you like liars? Probably not. So stop listening to these horror stories. They’re NOT true!

Instead of acting like an obedient servant to lunacy – yours or others – choose to stop it.

That’s why I named my technique Liberation of Lunacy because when the ego takes over, we’re all a little crazy.

Instead, ASK for your essence to be in the driver’s seat of your life and business.

You’re a Divine child. You’re more than good enough. If you diss you, you diss your Creator.

The rest of that silly stuff is only a program in your head, and you can replace that software.

You can start by making a choice. What thoughts, ideas or outcomes do you choose instead?

I choose _________________________.

You’re that powerful so if you choose, it makes a difference. Really. Choose to let go of the burdensome yoke of enslavement you’ve been carrying.

Choose to be free.

Now don’t go straddling the fence between listening to goofy ideas and choosing. Perching on pointy fence tops is very uncomfortable.

You have a choice to listen to those inane voices in your head or not.

How do I know they’re not telling you the truth? Because your essence never talks to you like this. Your spirit is always supportive. It may lovingly ask what you learned, but it never disparages you.

Here’s another approach.

The next time the dictator/ victim/ bully/ procrastinator/ naysayer in your head tells you that you can’t do something, say with resolve, “Watch me do it. Watch me.”

With gratitude,

Virginia
