Want People to Like You More?

January 9, 2023

Electromagnetic Wave

“Everything in life is vibration.”

Albert Einstein

I reconnected with an old friend who told me he had been in a funk for quite a while because of events that caused him to question himself.

This led to a discussion about how our energy attracts people and circumstances and how gratitude can shift the way we feel.

A couple of months later, he told me this:

“When I’m positive, I’m like a magnet, and more people want to talk with me. When I was in a funk and not smiling, people avoided me.

“I went to a conference where I was overflowing with good energy and made new friends.

“It’s interesting how it works. This positivity thing is attractive to others. It makes sense because I wouldn’t want to talk to someone who’s sitting in a corner and scowling, unless it was a friend. Then I’d ask, ‘What’s up?’ Otherwise, I’d stay away.

“When there’s nothing there for people, why would they come up to you?”

If you want others to like you more, begin by being aware of the energy you‘re emanating.

In most people’s lives, there are things that could go better. Maybe you want a better job or improvements in your business or you’re ready for a change of fortune or you’d like to enjoy life more.

It may be too big of a leap to go from funk to feeling good, but you can do it in increments by focusing on simple things.

Feel good because you have a roof over your head or can read, and build from there. What you take for granted would be a profound blessing for many.

Start to feel good by making peace with your current circumstances, and watch how your life begins to change for the better.

You may find that annoying people will find your positive energy annoying and eventually not stick around, but others will be attracted to you like a magnet.

How do you know what energy you’re emanating? Tune in to how you feel.

Not feeling good is a sign that you’re in opposition to how your inner Essence is guiding you. It’s a clue that your thinking and perspective are off track.

How can you change it?

“Hold the faith and purpose of increase… in such a way that every person who comes in contact with you… will feel the power of purpose radiating from you; so that everyone will get the sense of advancement and increase from you.”

Wallace D. Wattles, The Science of Getting Rich

3 Quotes on Gratitude – Willie, Eckhart and Buddha

November 21, 2022

A simple message. No sticky notes needed. Be grateful…. even those things that you can’t imagine how there’s anything good about them. There’s always a silver lining, and you have the ability to find it.

Something shifts making the way for something better.. if not now, maybe later. There’s always something to learn. Observe.

I’m grateful to you! Thanks for reading my blogs.

“When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.”
Willie Nelson

If you’re looking for an abundance of business, money, love, support or health, focusing on what’s working with gratitude will bring you more of what’s working.

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”
Eckhart Tolle

Gratitude Causes You to Feel Good

Especially during this time of giving thanks, take time to reflect on what you’re grateful for. The more you’re grateful, the more good feeling mojo you create. The more good feeling mojo you have, the more success you experience.

“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.”
Buddha

In gratitude for yourself, is it time to be good to you?

Can You Be Grateful About What Bugs You?

November 22, 2021

Once I asked someone who’s wise why things in my life weren’t working. I said that I practiced gratitude every morning and night.

The reply I received was what was I doing the rest of the day?

Gratitude, continuous gratitude, will change your life!

That can seem easier said than done at times, until we realize…

we’re rarely angry for the reason we think we’re angry. How dare they!

That feeling is not necessarily about the other person or situation being wrong. The emotion triggered may be from a similar, emotional memory or our perception that may or may not be accurate.

The reason we have charged emotions is because those challenging feelings surface (and then we get bugged about things) when it’s time for them to be released.

Have you noticed how sometimes people can jump to the wrong conclusion and then become upset by their interpretation, even if it’s false?

Regardless if the other was right or actually the wrongdoer, holding on to a lack of forgiveness or a one-sided, limiting perspective might feel empowering. It might feel validating, proof that you’re right and the other is wrong.

However, there might be another side of the story that’s not being considered because of being locked into a particular viewpoint.

The ego loves feeling right.

But your Essence knows the trap of self-righteousness and sees things differently.

A mother copped an attitude about perceived activity regarding her senior-aged daughter. Things she never did. Not even close. In fact, her accusations were ludicrous.

The whole issue could have been easily dismissed, but not even going to mediation altered her mother’s foolish perspective.

Rather than talking about it or seeing proof to the contrary, she set a court date!

She had her daughter evicted from her house through a court order the day before Thanksgiving. Her daughter had nowhere to go.

By the way, she had invited her daughter, who was down on her luck, to live with her. To do that, she had to sell her car and belongings and move over a thousand miles away.

Replacing her anger, frustration, hurt and fear of what her own mother was doing to her, the daughter began to send her mother love, disregarding any of her mother’s unforgiving attitudes.

The mother began to soften and question her hardline approach.

Empowerment through shifting your perspective to love and gratitude are more truly empowering than feeling justification through a lack of forgiveness or holding onto the feeling of what bugs you. Maybe there’s another angle you’re overlooking.

Perhaps, given an opportunity, you can clear the energy on whatever might be bugging you through discussion or seeing things from a different viewpoint. It doesn’t matter if that does or doesn’t work, love is the greatest healer.

Even if others are convinced you’re wrong, you can be emotionally free.

So if you get annoyed at your world and whatever bugs you about it, consider that there might be another perspective so that you can send love and give thanks, instead.

With gratitude,

Virginia

The BEST New Year’s Resolution

December 28, 2020

When I was a little girl, I asked my mother what should I be. I wanted her answer to be about my future profession, like a butcher, a baker or candlestick maker.

She always replied that she wanted me to be happy, which seemed at the time a lame response.

The older I get and the more I know about life, though, I realize what a wise answer it was.

Why being happy matters

As like attracts like, the more we’re happy, the more happy experiences we’ll attract.

Feeling good allows us not only to achieve our goals but to create a better life.

We can be rich, powerful, famous and living the dream, but if we’re not happy, well, life isn’t much fun. Living in stress, worry, fear, sadness or struggle can destroy our physical, financial, mental and emotional health and well-being.

Happiness doesn’t come because we have everything we want; we won’t enjoy them and may find that they slip away if we don’t feel good.

Stress, anxiety and worry are only habits that don’t serve you or anyone else.

Feeling afraid because of lack of money, love or health won’t change when you have everything money can and can’t buy. If these ways of thinking are habitual, you’d find something to get you bent out of shape.

Ever notice people (maybe you) who always have a reason to complain or feel bad? Even when things are great, they find something that’s not good enough.

Be happy. Find a silver lining no matter what.

You might be thinking that I don’t understand. You’ve got a lot of problems. You’ve been done wrong. You’ve experienced loss, and you’re afraid the proverbial other shoe might fall. You’ve been living in pain. You’ve had terrible things happen to you.

I really do get it because when everything in my life was falling apart, I knew I’d lose it all if I stepped onto the slippery slope of fear. My negativity would have made things go from bad to worse.

So I made a decision to feel good. To feel good in spite of it all.

Step at a time, sometimes baby steps, my life got better and better and better.

The BEST New Year’s resolution is to resolve to feel good. With this decision all things or something better are possible. It really is a choice.

You have complete control over your perspective, regardless of the situation. Your interpretation of events, your life, your success or manifesting your dreams is your key to the door of happiness, misery or getting what you most want.

Your energy will draw to you more of how you feel.

How in the world can you feel good in spite of the odds? Be grateful.

A client gifted me a handmade journal with an embroidered peacock on the cover that she bought in one of my favorite museums. It’s so beautiful that I decided I only wanted beautiful words in it. Another client on her team suggested a journaling exercise that makes her feel good.

Write what’s working in your life.

Soon after, on a day when everything was uncharacteristically out-of-synch, I couldn’t leave town to go to a party for me! Instead of having a hissy fit, I grabbed my new journal and wrote on the entire first page the many things that are going well.

Focusing on gratitude shifted my energy, allowed me to let go of the stress and be in present time. Of course, the change in plans turned out to be way better.

HAPPY New Year to you.

Hint: the clue is in the greeting. The first word is HAPPY.

The BEST New Year’s resolution is to feel good and be happy.

You can use feeling good as your inner GPS to know if you’re on the right track or not. It may be that the only thing needed for you to be happy is an attitude adjustment.

Also, how you feel can be an indicator that you’re on the right path or heading in a direction that no longer serves you or maybe never did.

If you decide a change is needed, feel good about where you are, even if you don’t like it. Then line up your energy by feeling good about your new direction and take actions for something better.

Happy New Year! It’s your choice to parrot the words or make them come true for you!

May you enjoy your happiest year ever!

Gratitude Creates Good Feeling Mojo…plus great quotes from Willie Nelson to Buddha

November 23, 2020

Whatever you focus on grows. So that you don’t blow to smithereens your good feeling mojo, let’s start where the land mines are buried.

If good feeling mojo was your lover, would the following inspire your sweetheart to run to you with gifts of money, love and health or get blasted back to an undesirable past?

  • Fussing up because people are idiots, things are complicated and your career or business deals aren’t working… again.
  • Wanting money but complaining that the system is rigged so it’s hard to get.
  • Can’t figure out why God has broken His promise to you because of what’s happened.
  • Feeling worried until you get the next doctor’s report.
  • Thinking repeatedly about how someone has done you wrong.
  • Looking for satisfaction while blaming, complaining or things being infuriating.

Money, love and health aren’t found on the pity pot vibe. (Oh, and I’ve unsuccessfully tried so hard to be saved from mine.)

Misery loves company. Regardless of what you say you want, if you’re sending silent messages of struggle, suffering and sadness, your energy would bring you more of the same… more of what you feel but don’t want.

If your business or life mirror a Looney Tunes episode, don’t look for the bogey man. Instead, start with good feeling mojo every day.

You can change how you feel by changing your perspective.

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
Oprah Winfrey

Once, when my life had fallen apart, I couldn’t feel grateful about anything.
I was separated, depressed, and in no mood to focus on business.

Gratitude. Interesting concept. The end.

However, I heard a story about someone who went through hard times, and being grateful was her magic key. She climbed out of the hole she was in, got a great job, new friends and turned her life completely around.

Hmmm, okay. I decided to give it a try with no clue of where to begin.

Suddenly, lost in thought about “woe is me” while walking through a greenbelt at dusk, I snapped out of my trance.

Stories from the news popped in my head about snipers on roof tops in a war torn country. They killed people who had to run across an open space to get water.

But I had zero concern about my physical safety. I had basic needs. Water. No bullets or bombs threatened me. Roof over my head. AC when it’s hot and heat when it’s cold. I was alive. There was so much to appreciate, however I didn’t see it because I was looking in the wrong direction.

I woke up to gratitude and the blessings of how people were there for me. Even though much wasn’t working, a lot was. So I redirected my focus to where I could find gratitude. I began to feel better. As I did, my life got better, too.

“When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.”
Willie Nelson

Families Count, too!

May 25, 2020
flag and boys

Jim traced back his family’s military history to the American Revolution and to Europe before then. Continuing with the tradition, his kids are either in military service or married to someone who is.

Military through and through, he was the ideal person for me to ask about a Memorial Day message.

His lightning fast response:

“They also serve who remain behind.”

“Nowadays, the military gets recognition. Slowly, people are recognizing that the families undergo great hardships. They’re in the military, too, but they don’t get paid by the government.”

When Jim was 13 years old, his father, a military advisor, was sent to Saudi Arabia.

“All the manly stuff fell on my shoulders from what to do when the car broke down to family emergencies. It’s traumatic for a family to be on their own while worrying about the safety of a loved one stationed far away.”

“The dandelion is the official flower of the military brat.”

“The seeds of dandelions scatter as the wind blows, and they put down roots wherever they land.

“Military brats are raised with suitcases in both hands.

“In the old days, people were transferred every couple of years.

“In 1951, my parents drove the whole family from West Palm Beach, Florida, to Fairbanks, Alaska. It took 30 days, and much of it was on dirt roads.

“Imagine doing that with a carload of kids.”

The families are unsung heroes.

And Memorial Day is a time of remembrance.

On Memorial Day, you can send a prayer of acknowledgment to all those who take or have taken a stand for liberty so we can enjoy our freedom.

Send a prayer of appreciation to the warriors inspired to serve on the front lines or to help behind the lines in whatever capacity.

Send a prayer to honor those who serve or have served as well as to honor their families who’ve made countless personal and emotional sacrifices while supporting them.

Because of their service, we have greater freedom to pursue our dreams and goals.

We give thanks.

During this time of change, can you see that you’re no longer willing

Miracles Can Happen – Always

November 25, 2019

“Miracles can happen always.”

That’s what a nine-year-old said after he ran to catch his nearly 30# baby brother who fell more than four feet from a changing table.

Joseph thought he was aided by divine intervention.

“I would have never caught him, and I can’t run that fast. So I felt like something came and just pushed me forward, and when that happened, I just ran and caught him.”

The moments-long miracle was caught on their security camera:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1spWDYJSXRs

The mother, who turned away only briefly, changed her perspective from what she did wrong to what she did right.

“I was just getting everyone ready for bed. I was home alone with the five kids, and at first I said, ‘I messed up. I did something wrong.’ But then I realized that, really, it was a miracle. I must have done something right to have been deserving of this little guy, running in at the right time and catching him at the right moment.”

Lesson 5 of my Soulgoals program says this about miracles:

What is a miracle? A miracle is a positive outcome that you didn’t anticipate. It’s when you have no idea how things can work out, and then they do. It’s when results defy logic, and the impossible occurs. It’s when you’re touched by grace.

Miracles compel you to expand your consciousness and go beyond what you think is possible. They are reminders to trust in a friendly and supportive universe that assists you to create your life of choice.

Miracles come in all sizes.

A client and her daughter had ongoing conflicts between themselves.

While coaching, she realized that the fear and judgment she had about her daughter was alienating her.

In the past, she was more of the disciplinarian because she thought that was the best parenting style.

Now, she changed her perspective and approach.

She had an idea to text each of her two adult children separately and tell them how much she appreciates them as well as note their wonderful qualities.

“I love you. You are great. I’m grateful you’re alive…”

She realized that almost all of her fear about “what if” certain things happened to her children weren’t based on anything other than the negativity and drama in her head.

She also gave consideration to her reply when people ask, “How are you?”

Instead of good or fine, automatic responses that people mindlessly give as well as the way they robotically feel about themselves, she decided to say, “I am grateful.”

To change her lifelong habit of how she had been relating to her children, and to feel their positive responses, is a miracle.

We discussed a goal to highlight her intentions.

She doesn’t cook, and throughout her life she was a perfectionist who got anxious if things didn’t go just right.

Yet she longed to have a family dinner.

So we came up with a way for her to create one.

This morning, I received her email.

“I want to let you know that we had a great time last Friday. (She described the food everyone made.) It was a very festive dinner, and I didn’t even get uptight!

“Thank you for guiding me. I am breathing in divine flow and letting out judgments and fears to get myself back on track.”

Your TIP is to open to miracles happening in your life.

To experience miracles is to be willing to let go of your problems and worries and allow  yourself to receive something better.

Watch for the miracles in your life. They may be big or small.

Nothing is impossible.

You can receive what you choose or something better.

Happy, Miracle-full Thanksgiving. Happy giving thanks!

PHOTOS: Look What Was on my Doorstep!

June 24, 2019
This is what I saw this week when I opened my front door and looked down.

It’s a baby fawn who the mother left on my doorstep for a few hours. Mama deer leave their newborns somewhere they feel is safe while they get food after giving birth, probably either that morning or the day before. This little one was lying on my doormat nestled directly against the threshold of my house.
Comparing her size, the doormat is 18″ x 30″. She’s lying on top of the words Be Grateful. This gift certainly gives me lots of reasons to feel grateful. I’m grateful that the mama trusted me with her baby, too!
I was inches in front of the fawn’s face when I took this photo. She didn’t move a muscle or look at me. At the top of the picture, you can see inside my house and that she’s immediately in front of my door.
The colors and texture of the rug and baby are similar, although the baby’s fur looks a lot softer.
A few years ago, I found this little one on the steps at my back door.
My cat Micha had to investigate. Micha wasn’t sniffing or licking. With closed eyes, she looks like she was doing a bit of a mind meld with the baby. Welcome to the world!

Life. There’s always something to be thankful for.

When we take a moment to open our hearts, away from some of the pressing problems of the day, we can see.

With gratitude,

Virginia

Your Good is on Its Way

April 18, 2019

Before I wrote my Soulgoals’ blog, I published a weekly article called Soulgoal Missives. Recently, I came across this folder of these posts and thought I’d share with you a missive I wrote in 2002 titled “Your Good is on Its Way.” May your good grow in whatever ways are meaningful to you!

Sometimes the good we desire in life seems to come to people around us first. If we can praise and give thanks for another’s blessings, rather than be envious and jealous and critical, then we can be assured that those same blessings (or even greater ones) will come to us.
Catherine Ponder,
Open Your Mind to Prosperity

I had wonderful, good news. Something very special happened. Metaphorically, for me it was as if I’d won the lottery jackpot.

When I shared it with a couple of friends, I knew they were happy for me. But at the same time, there was disappointment and a tinge of sadness that they hadn’t hit the “lottery,” too.

Continuing with my lottery metaphor, they were buying tickets regularly and wanted to win for a long time. I imagined winning but didn’t play much. However, someone offered me a winning ticket, and now I’m enjoying the benefits.

I thought that if they understood a nuance of life, then they’d be ecstatic for me.

Nothing comes to us, nothing enters our life, unless some part of us is in alignment with it.

When others have goodness come into their lives, and then they’re around me, that means my good is on its way… IF I ACCEPT IT. If I get bummed out because someone else was successful at something and I wasn’t, then I send my good away.

When something good happens to someone around me, even if it’s180 degrees opposite of where I am, even if I’m in the pit of despair about this very topic, someone’s success inspires me with a reason to rejoice as it’s a sign, a messenger, that my own good is on its way.

With this perspective, jealousy, envy, sadness, disappointment and discouragement, because of another’s success, go flying out the window. These emotions send our good away.

Knowing how this works, chasing our good away suggests we’re either experiencing temporary insanity or invested in self-sabotage.

How does feeling good about someone else’s good affect us? Let’s look at it from a point of view that all life is energy, and that energy is affected by our emotional state.

Imagine someone is flat broke and doesn’t know where to get rent money. Being in the dumps makes it difficult to earn any money or come up with ideas to make some.

Then information comes that a large, unexpected check is in the mail. Instant relief – the pressure is off. Happiness. Gratitude. Enthusiasm. Feelings shift to being upbeat and creative – ideas flow and new thoughts are magnetized toward this dynamic state. Élan vital, a vital force or impulse of life, is tapped. Nothing is the same after that.

The world of imagination is made real.

When we tap the élan vital, we shift our ability to receive the abundance that life offers. Life is waiting to bring us blessings; to receive them we must be in a state of willingness, allowing this grace to enter.

After our conversation about my “winning the lottery,” one of my friends opened up to the possibility of winning, too. The next day she e-mailed me about two lottery tickets someone gave her. She didn’t hit the jackpot, but she is grateful for winning tickets.

Your good is close; be willing to let it in. This is grace; invite and allow it to work through you and touch your life. The more you allow this heightened state of accepting life’s bounty as part of who you are, the more magical and extraordinary your life becomes.

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to celebrate other people’s successes.

If someone shares a success with you, find a place inside of yourself that’s genuinely thrilled and happy for him or her – as if it happened to you. Don’t judge that it’s not good enough or too good! Practice gratitude that someone with this experience is either around you or that you learned about it. Then assume your good is near and will appear in its own way, when the time is just right.

Truly, your good is not just on its way, it’s here now. Open your eyes to see it.

12 Quotes by Louise Hay and Inscriptions She Wrote in My Books

September 17, 2018

Hay list

Louise Hay was a multi-national, best-selling author, speaker and founder of Hay House.  I heard her speak following the publication of her best-selling classic You Can Heal Your Life. Included in this is her famous The List, which correlates diseases and the probable thought patterns that caused them as well as affirmations to assist in healing. The first page from The List is shown above.

In the late 1980s, here’s the inscription she wrote in my copy of the book You Can Heal Your Life:

Love and Joy
Louise

At the turn of this century, I again heard her speak along with other featured guests when I went to Houston for a day-long seminar. Her inscription, when she signed my book The Power is Within You, changed slightly:

Virginia –
Love & Power!
Louise Hay

She became immensely popular by inspiring millions who could hear her messages. In Dr. Wayne Dyer’s words, “Louise Hay writes to your soul… where all healing begins.”

Which one of her quotes found below resonates with you the most?

With gratitude,

Virginia

“You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds…Claim and consciously use your power.”

“Every thought we think is creating our future.”

“If you accept a limiting belief, then it will become a truth for you.”

“Look at the ‘problems’ in your life. Ask yourself, ‘What kind of thoughts am I having that create this?'”

“You’ve been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”

“No person, place, or thing has any power over me, for I am the only thinker in my mind.”

“Be willing to take the first step, no matter how small it is.”

“Concentrate on the fact that you are willing to learn. Absolute miracles will happen.”

“I have noticed that the Universe loves Gratitude. The more Grateful you are, the more goodies you get”

“Remember the things that gave you joy as a child. Incorporate them into your life now. Find a way to have fun with everything you do. Let yourself express the joy of living. Smile. Laugh. Rejoice, and the Universe rejoices with you!”

“Begin to recognize prosperity everywhere, and rejoice in it.”

This is the top quote on her website, which commemorates her. She was 90 when she passed. (1926 – 2017):

“In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole, and complete.”
