Yes, There Is a Santa Claus

Virginia O’Hanlon, at age eight, wrote a letter to the editor of New York’s Sun, and a quick reply was printed as an editorial on Sept. 21, 1897. Even though the paper’s response was anonymously printed, newsman Francis Pharcellus Church’s ultimate feel-good writing has since become history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial, appearing in part or whole, in dozens of languages, in books, movies, other editorials, and on posters and stamps.

Of all people to receive this editorial assignment was a sardonic Columbia College graduate and veteran writer at The Sun, a popular daily known for its lively writing and human interest stories.

Francis Church was also a war correspondent during the American Civil War. Because of the human suffering and loss he witnessed, he had lost his personal sense of faith and hope.

Church’s personal motto was ”Endeavor to clear your mind of cant” and reportedly ”bristled and pooh-poohed” when his editor asked him to reply to Virginia’s letter. However, Francis Church produced a masterpiece Christmas classic– under deadline and in less than 500 words.

THE EDITORIAL

DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’
Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

VIRGINIA O’HANLON.
115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET.

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

T
his is Virginia saying I do believe in Santa Claus. Do you?

With the magic of the season,

Virginia

Christmas Spirit – I Mean A Real Spirit

December 18, 2017

Christmas Ghost

Ever needed help but felt so alone? You’re never alone!

After her beloved father passed a couple of years ago, she was shocked at what happened next. Family members did the unimaginable by creating legal maneuvers over a fortune that left them riding high and her nearly destitute.

They cornered her from every angle she had available so she wasn’t able to stand up to them effectively. She was left feeling angry, frustrated, betrayed, broke and nearly broken by those she trusted.

It looked hopeless with no way out.

Recently, her father appeared to her in a lucid dream. She told me, “It was real; I felt like I was alive and really there in the dream.

“We were looking out at a field of grass and flowers with trees perfectly in a row lining each side. It was beautiful, very colorful and really alive.

“I know we were with other family members.” One in particular is the one whose greed had guided the misdeeds.

With anger that had been common while he was alive physically, he told his wife, “Get it corrected! The will is not be in any one else’s hands!!”

She shared the following with me but with no one else because others might not believe her vivid encounters. As my writing is anonymous, she agreed to let me share this with you.

Her father appears to my client often as if he’s in physical form. Even after writing my draft of this post, she texted that she saw him while she was driving; this time he appeared as a young man.

Seeing him calms me down, and I know he’s with me and correcting the situation.”

Recently, I saw Charles Dickens’ The Christmas Carol where Scrooge had a change of heart because of visitations by Christmas ghosts.

Life works in mysterious ways. Events happen that make the seeming impossible possible. As Scrooge learned, it’s not too late for anyone to change, to Be, to receive, to give, to open to Love.

If you open to receive, you can discover that help is always available and you’re never alone.

Maybe there’s more to the story of The Christmas Carol than just a metaphor.

Einstein said, ““Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.”

So what happens to anyone’s energy when they pass on? Could they be alive but in another form? My client has frequent rendezvous with her father that cause her to believe that there’s more to life than what we think we know.

Think of the possibilities you have available right now if you allow yourself to receive support from intelligence and profound caring from infinite sources.

Think of the impact that could make on any of your problems from money and business to relationships and health.

Over the years, I’ve found if I let go of my limited beliefs and shift instead to be open to receive, miracles happen in my life that defy logical assumptions or solutions I could imagine.

Consider playing a game. Think of an issue you have and then let go of it emotionally. Just for an experiment, let go of worrying, being in fear or trying to control outcomes.

When you let go of being all balled up emotionally, you also let go of resistance to your issues.

You now have created more space for solutions to appear.

While you’re in a more receptive mode (or even if you’re not), ask for help.

According to your beliefs, help may come from your inner wisdom, God, Jesus, loved ones who’ve passed on or a team on the other side who are waiting for you to ask for assistance.

You can open to a calm presence within and situations resolving themselves beyond your wildest imagination.

YOU can be a living example of peace on earth, goodwill to man.

This Is How the Universe Hears You & Why You Get (or Don’t Get) What You Want!

December 11, 2017

disapprove man

How would you feel if someone felt this way about you? The same thing happens to your energy when you feel this way about yourself.

A client told me how she was able to manifest small things during a coaching session last week. However, when it came to her business, she wasn’t closing people on her offers.

She had big programs and small ones. Lately, she just wasn’t successful in selling anything. Several times during her session, she was hard on herself because things went wrong.

“Why did I attract people who don’t have money? Even if they have the money and need what I do (and she does it well), they don’t get back with me. What am I doing wrong?”

Despite her positive sounding words, she communicated a non-verbal message that there’s something wrong with her.

People aren’t as attracted to people who don’t feel good about themselves, unless it mirrors how they feel about themselves or their opinion of you. It often brings up guilt, blame and shame.

When I pointed out how she consistently was judging herself, she told me, “I had critical parents and never got compliments from them. Now I feel that if I can’t do things perfectly, there’s something wrong with me.”

Have you ever felt like her or questioned yourself in a condemning way, too?

“I’m building that muscle of approving of myself, but my habit of doing the opposite has been stronger.”

As like attracts like, the only thing that happens when you’re negative is that you attract more negativity.

That puts you in an energetic conundrum because the more you feel good, the more success you attract. When you don’t feel good, your energy attracts more things that keep you from feeling good. This includes business, money, health, weight, people and your happiness.

Disapproving of yourself doesn’t feel good. Even if it momentarily motivates you to action, success won’t last because there’s negative energy at its foundation.

The universe and others “hear” your disapproval energy, and they give you back more of the same — more things to disapprove of.

The energy of disapproving of yourself, others and situations is why you get (or don’t get) what you want! The more you let go of disapproval energy, the more you’ll attract your cherished goals. What a sacrifice. To get what you really want, you have to feel good about yourself!

Right after our session, my client had two consultations to present her offers. She emailed me this after she talked with them:

I had two prospects back to back after I talked to you, and both took my BIG packages!!

Yay!

You’re a miracle worker, Virginia.

I’m grateful she gave me permission to share her story with you.

My last post was titled “What Do People Hear You Say When You’re Not Talking?” What they “hear” is the energy you transmit.

Dogs sense energy, such as fear. People sense energy, too. A reason why first impressions are quick is that it takes a fraction of a second for people to read your energy.

People hear you disapproving or approving of yourself even when you don’t speak or say all the right words.

Experiment with approving of yourself. And what a price you’ll pay for doing it. You’ll feel good!

What Do People Hear You Say When You’re Not Talking?

December 4, 2017

Khan

This photo of Khizr Khan, as he came onto the stage with the light on the audience, exemplifies how he highlights and respects others.

His peace and centeredness said volumes before he spoke a word.

When he stepped onto the stage, the atmosphere in the recording studio noticeably shifted; the audience immediately felt on a threshold to witness a message that would move the spirit as well as the mind. This wasn’t going to be a routine interview by Evan Smith for his PBS TV show “Overheard.”

Originally from Pakistan, Khizr Khan’s stories depicted a heartfelt gratitude and love for the United States, from an immigrant’s perspective who felt privileged to receive law degrees, first in Punjab and then at Harvard.

It wasn’t just the moving depiction of his first encounters of the generosity of Americans that began to touch my heart.

Tears misted my eyes because he helped me see the world as he sees it, with profound appreciation and goodwill.

As a Gold Star father, his focus wasn’t on the loss of his son while defending his country in Iraq.

We heard about the character of and respect for United States Army Captain Humayun Khan from a story he shared through the eyes of a 10-year-old boy who his son mentored.

Through the eyes of Khizr Khan, I found a deeper gratitude for living in this country of freedom.

I was inspired anew by Ronald Reagan’s election eve address “A Vison for America” when he referred to being “committed to that vision of a shining ‘city on a hill.'”

In his non-political message, Mr. Khan’s very presence inspired us never to give up faith in the goodness of people, freedom and the ideals set forth by the founders of the U.S. Constitution.

How can your presence affect your success?

A client was getting ready for an important presentation. His team prepared charts and figures designed to make his offer so impressive that his prospect would have to say yes.

I told him that he would be hired because of his energy and who he is. While the charts are wonderful, they would be window dressing.

When his prospect couldn’t make their scheduled appointment and didn’t return follow up calls, he thought his window of opportunity closed.

As part of his mastermind team’s assignment, my client was reading the following ideas in Wallace D. Wattles’ classic The Science of Getting Rich.

“Convey the impression of advancement with everything you do, so that all people shall receive the impression that you are an Advancing Man, and that you advance all who deal with you.”

Turns out that his prospect had been busy and did call back. At that time, my client was so filled with the attitude to “convey to their minds the impression of increase” that, without the charts and during that phone conversation, the man agreed for them to do business together.

His energy of conveying increase spoke louder than marketing tools, inspired his words and went beyond his talking.

You can be a success, whatever that means to you, beyond any of your perceived limitations.

You can be a success regardless of how much money or titles you have or don’t have, who you know or your lack of connections, your education, your past so-called “failures,” your personal shortcomings or the state of your health.

Within you currently exists a bounty of life-supporting energy to attract the success you choose, in any and every area of your life!

Focus on energy of well-being and increase to all instead of what’s not working.

When you do this, people who are open to well-being and increase will hear you beyond any words you speak.
