PHOTOS: Look What Was on my Doorstep!

June 24, 2019
This is what I saw this week when I opened my front door and looked down.

It’s a baby fawn who the mother left on my doorstep for a few hours. Mama deer leave their newborns somewhere they feel is safe while they get food after giving birth, probably either that morning or the day before. This little one was lying on my doormat nestled directly against the threshold of my house.
Comparing her size, the doormat is 18″ x 30″. She’s lying on top of the words Be Grateful. This gift certainly gives me lots of reasons to feel grateful. I’m grateful that the mama trusted me with her baby, too!
I was inches in front of the fawn’s face when I took this photo. She didn’t move a muscle or look at me. At the top of the picture, you can see inside my house and that she’s immediately in front of my door.
The colors and texture of the rug and baby are similar, although the baby’s fur looks a lot softer.
A few years ago, I found this little one on the steps at my back door.
My cat Micha had to investigate. Micha wasn’t sniffing or licking. With closed eyes, she looks like she was doing a bit of a mind meld with the baby. Welcome to the world!

Life. There’s always something to be thankful for.

When we take a moment to open our hearts, away from some of the pressing problems of the day, we can see.

With gratitude,

Virginia
