LisaBeth “LB” Thomas on the Front Page!

December 1, 2020

Journal Profile: LisaBeth Thomas is a behind-the-scenes star

TV producer celebrates decade as co-founder of Texas Women in Business

LisaBeth Thomas at her favorite Austin restaurant, Chinatown. It’s also where the group she co-founded 10 years ago, Texas Women in Business, first met. To Thomas’ surprise, 157 people showed up for the first meeting:
ARNOLD WELLS / ABJ

I’ve been privileged to coach LisaBeth “LB” Thomas for over 10 years. While she’s always been dynamic, I’ve watch her grow through extraordinarily challenging times.

Within four months, she lost her 14-year business along with her house where her children grew up, and her mom passed away. Although she was homeless as well as financially and emotionally devastated, these experiences planted the seeds that later created her metamorphosis.

In the midst of other accomplishments, this year she harvested one of the fruits that grew from the soil of those hard times — her online course called Outwitting Fear. www.outwittingfear.com

While celebrating 10 years as a co-founder and current Austin chapter president of Texas Women in Business (TWIB), this month she was profiled on the front page of the Austin Business Journal.

When I interviewed her for this blog post, LisaBeth offered these kind words:

“Virginia, you’ve helped me get through these challenges and encouraged me to transform what I’ve learned to impact the world.

“Thank you. As my coach and friend for over 10 years, you’ve seen me through even when, after so many losses, I didn’t see the light at the end of many tunnels. I did the work, but you walked me through.”

“Let people know that they can get through their challenges, too.

“Source is our source.”

I’ve taken her online course, and I LOVE it!  Outwitting Fear is a great value, too, because the process can be used repeatedly whenever challenges arise. We can discover and release core fears behind what’s holding us back.

From her website: “I want everyone to find freedom from fear as I did. So that they can have the life and success, and the opportunity to fulfill your dreams, the ones you’ve always had.”

This is how it begins:

A lot can happen in 10 years — just ask LisaBeth Thomas.

A decade ago, Thomas’s career as a film and video producer was in high gear. Her credits included a wide swath of work from movies like “Hope Floats” to TV shows “Real Life with Gerald Mann,” plus commercials like a campaign celebrating the 20th anniversary of Amy’s Ice Creams.

Referrals, such as from GSD&M to produce Anheuser-Busch commercials for the Keep Texas Beautiful recycling campaign, fueled growth that turned her little Austin production company, LBTJ, into a seven-figure agency handling everything from marketing to media buys.

But of her creations, she is most proud of being one of the original five founders of Texas Women in Business, a nonprofit women’s group dedicated to fostering personal and professional growth along with pooling resources to give back to the community through philanthropy. The group celebrates its 10-year anniversary in 2020.

“[We] took the idea to 20 of our friends, and from there it grew to Houston and Lubbock — and 10 years later, we’re still here,” said Thomas, who is once again leading the charge as chapter president during its anniversary year. Collectively, the Austin chapter has donated more than $40,000 since its start.

For this special year, TWIB has partnered with the governor’s office and women’s groups across the state to create an awareness campaign and fundraiser to help fight human trafficking. The “Not On Our Watch|TX” campaign will culminate with an event at the Texas State Capitol next June.

Thomas is also rebuilding her life and her business after a 2015 divorce forced her to shutter the company and sell her home. Her mother also died around the same time, leaving LB — as Thomas is called by friends — devastated, homeless and jobless. She recalls keeping it all to herself and how liberating it was when she finally opened up about her struggles to the TWIB faithful and faced her fears.

“My identity was completely tied to the business, so I thought their love and respect for me was because of the business,” Thomas said. As she worked through her own insecurities, Thomas began to understand how much unconscious fears had sabotaged her and influenced her actions. Thomas has taken what she has learned from her own journey and turned it into a motivational program to help others called Outwitting Fear.

Now, Thomas sees herself as a corporate dropout, preferring instead to pursue opportunities on her own. Thomas is producing again. She calls herself The Big Cheese and her new production company is called Big Cheese TV.

What productions are you working on now? Right now, I’m working with a technology company and we are creating the first “shoppable” hunting and fishing show. You literally can watch the video and click any item you see and are able to read about it or buy it right then. It is very cool.

What are your three favorite productions you had a hand in? “Hope Floats” with Sandra Bullock. Montana Rib & Chop House, we flew Pat Green up to Montana to shoot the commercial — so fun. Grand Roatan Caribbean Resort, we shot Conni Reed of Consuela at the resort. She was being photographed for the cover of Austin Woman Magazine so we did some behind-the-scenes footage and also created commercials and videos for the resort while we were at it.

I have to add a fourth. We produced all of Amy’s Ice Creams 20th anniversary commercials and we had a blast.

What do you like most about your career? I love producing. I have a gift of seeing what’s in the client’s head and creating a film strip in my mind and then bringing it to life.

What has helped or hindered your career? Creating long-lasting relationships has been instrumental. What hindered me is thinking I could do it all. So, when my husband/partner and I divorced, I should’ve gotten someone to handle the operations and let me do what I do best. I thought I could do it all and that impacted my creativity.

What inspires you? Seeing people go for it. We all have setbacks, but what inspires me is when someone turns that setback into something life changing for them or for others. Or when they face their fears or hurts, that’s when you heal.

How would you describe your management style? Making sure everyone feels valuable and what they say or do matters.

How do you start your day? A cup of French-pressed coffee, about 15 minutes by myself in the courtyard then David and I do devotions. Even if I’m traveling, we call and do them together.

Stop Fear in Its Tracks

June 3, 2019

Please enjoy my Soulgoal Missive, which I resurrected from my July 2002 archives. This was the year after the September 11 terrorist attacks, and fear was rampant.

“Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now.
Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now.”

Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

Anxiety and worry reside in many like a low-grade fever that won’t go away.

People work, live, and don’t notice fear most of the time because it’s so familiar. It can lurk in the background like a gnawing in back of the mind that something might happen… a feeling of anticipation, waiting for the other shoe to fall.

There are countless ways to mask it, such as using power over others, escapes like too much television, overuse of substances, addictions, sex, being controlling, seeking approval, and anger.

Fear. It’s often fear of the future, the unknown, that somehow, something might happen, and we won’t be able to handle it.

We can never cope with the future. When our mental imaginings run rampant into what danger might be lurking, we incapacitate ourselves.

We can always cope in the now, in this present moment of time. Remember the adage that we are only given what we can handle.

We always have the ability to make it to the next stage of life. Always.

“So let me assert my belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt, U.S. President during World II

What else can be done to diminish fear?

If you want yeast to multiply, feed it sugar. If you want fear to grow, feed it fear.

If you want to reduce fear, take a deep breath and surround what you fear with love. I know this can sound crazy, but consider this.

The aim of terrorists is to create fear and terror. Generating fear in others makes them stronger as it’s their food, their energy source. Instilling fear is the outcome they’re trying to create, so our feeling fear encourages them to create more terror.

Unconditional love short-circuits them. They become like the Wicked Witch of the West and their power to create fear in others starts to melt. The fury of anger cannot ride on love.

Overcoming the domination of fear IS possible! Here’s a recent Success Story of one of my clients, LisaBeth Thomas:

“With Virginia’s coaching my world totally changed.  She showed me how to let go of the fears and let in my success. Now I am getting new business and opportunities each month!  My energy and enthusiasm are through the roof, and there is no stopping me or the growth of my company!”

LisaBeth (LB) Thomas, The Big Cheese.TV, LLC; Producer, Speaker, Leading Brand and Media Strategist; Founding Member & Past President of Texas Women in Business (TWIB); an Austin Business Journal’s Top 25 Woman of Influence

Thoughts, feelings, and prayers are real and are felt around the world.

We have the ability to impact life by living in this moment of time with the spirit of love.

Right now as you read this, you can offer love and goodwill to the Life Force and let it be distributed wherever It chooses. Now, you just made a difference.

That which we fear diminishes and eventually disappears as we wake up to this awareness.

Who do you trust, a Higher Power or fear? Hint: Who do you know is the biggest kid on the block, every block, everywhere, throughout eternity?

Maybe you’ve been wearing your fear like an irreversible tattoo when it’s only a rub-on that can be removed. Switch your attention to the now rather than worry about an unknown future, and the fear washes off.

Fear is your interpretation of events, a misuse of your imagination, and you have the power to change your perspective.

Fill the now with love, and not only is there no room left for fear within you, but that which you fear dwindles.

It doesn’t mean you agree with what others do or a situation. It does mean you don’t give them the power to control you.

There’s a Zen story about a Japanese warrior waiting in prison after capture. The fear of interrogation, torture, and execution overwhelmed him, and he couldn’t sleep. Then he remembered the words of his spiritual master, “Tomorrow is not real. It is an illusion. The only reality is now.” He fell peacefully asleep.

Your challenge, if you choose to accept, is to live in the moment with love.

Observe your reaction when fear arises in you and recognize that the fear has nothing to do with this moment in time.

Instead of worrying and being afraid of what might happen, redirect your attention to the now. Replace the feelings of fear with gratitude, love, and goodwill to Life.

Success Thought

“Focus on what you want. Dwelling on your fears will bring them upon you…We need to enjoy what we have right now and live right now. Fearing loss is not living in the now. Fearing loss is living in the future.”

Andrew Matthews, Being Happy! A Handbook to Greater Confidence & Security

These Conscious Creators’ Designed Their 2019

January 7, 2019

Top row, left to right: Melinda Everett, Howard Hestand, LisaBeth (LB) Thomas Bottom row, left to right: Lisa Schnitzer, Carol Warkoczewski, Virginia Goszewska, Lisa Bargsley, Suzy Schwartz, Emily Werbow

Upon meeting, this community of kindred spirits quickly bonded. They gathered from Santa Fe, NM and the Texas cities of Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Marble Falls, Blanco and Wimberley.

Having enjoyed my Soulgoals and Conscious Creators’ programs, they came together to launch their new year at the Conscious Creators’ 2019 Blast Off!

The day began with introductions by everyone sharing some of their best manifestations. It was inspiring to hear their stories and how they transformed their lives in a few months following their challenges, and some of those challenges had been considerably significant and long-term.

  • From debilitating pain to being pain-free
  • From decades of depression to being extraordinarily happy living a fulfilling life
  • From being left flat due to devastating losses, personal and financial, to enjoying her true love and soaring in business with millionaires and billionaires
  • From lack of confidence and monetary upsets because of a business transition to feeling satisfaction while enjoying a new approach that’s bringing financial success
  • From investment losses because of head overriding gut-level guidance to a significant spiritual awakening
  • And overall amazing successes and manifestations!

Conscious manifesting begins with the recognition of one’s true Essence. Following exercises that deepened their connections to the Source within and their Divine Blueprint, they activated their Soul-inspired awareness to design their ideal year.

We ate together and laughed a lot. It was heart warming to feel the love, caring and support everyone had for each other to clarify and bring chosen goals to fruition.

I started the day setting our intention on goal setting from a higher bandwidth.

Entropy describes the physical world where energy dissipates, order decreases and structures disintegrate.

Syntropy describes life.

“Syntropy consists in a force, opposed to entropy, which attracts living systems towards higher levels of organization and order.”  Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, Nobel Laureate

Throughout the day our energy lifted to this higher organization and order of awareness, being and the world of possibilities, a world they could now embrace as their own…

And from this higher level of thinking and being, they designed their new year. They did this with confidence and seeing how their goals were right for them and completely doable. They aligned with their most cherished goals, not from their head or ego-driven desires, but from the inside out.

LisaBeth Thomas wrote, “I see my goals coming to fruition now — it’s so exciting knowing that all is possible and I deserve it! Virginia… well, she just rocks.”

Emily Werbow wrote: “Clarity. Encouragement to continue. Validation. Everyone regardless of their station are striving to evolve… Evolution happens.”

Carol Warkoczewski wrote: “Once again, today’s workshop brought amazing insights for my 2019-2020 goals. The energy among the participants was palpable, and I feel a sense of peace, clarity and surety about my life.” FANTASTIC!”

Lisa Bargsley wrote, “I always have ah ha moments whenever I participate in a workshop with Virginia. The Conscious Creators’ workshop opened my thinking to new possibilities to another level, another bandwidth. Thank you again!”

Melinda Everett wrote:” Today’s workshop was full of wonderful energy. The love and support help me clarify my goals for 2019. Virginia always designs exercises that help you delve into what your true goals in life are all about.”

Suzy Schwartz wrote: “The Conscious Creators’ workshop left me calmer, at ease, knowing all is set in motion for me to have a successful year. The group energy was palpable, and the exercises gave life to increasing our own individual energy to a place of manifestation.”

Howard Hestand wrote: “The Conscious Creators’ workshop gave me confidence to believe my goals will be accomplished. It was great to be around like-minded individuals and share ideas. Very inspirational.”

Lisa Schnitzer wrote: “Virginia’s Conscious Creators’ workshop was a vortex of energy and spiritually uplifting. There is strength in being around that energy… we are creating our best lives thanks to Virginia.”
