3 Tips to Be in Charge

The freedom of letting go.

You know that voice in your head that never stops talking? It tells you lots of negative things, especially why things can’t work, and you’ll probably not do well if you try. Nothing is good enough, especially you, your time, your money and what you do.

This voice that pretends to be you is your ego. And it’s a good reason not to believe everything you think is true.

It’s a part of you that gives a list of seemingly logical reasons why you should hold back: don’t take the course of action that can help you break free of limitations. And if anyone challenges it, the ego gets upset and defends its (unconscious) faulty assumptions.

You have a choice!

Instead of acting helpless in the grips of Robo-Ego, know that you’re in charge, and unsupportive feelings can leave.

Here are a few tips:

  1. If you want or need something, you’re coming from lack. You’ll be perpetually in a place of wanting instead of having what you choose.
  2. What you resist persists. Although it sounds counter-intuitive, if you don’t like something, you’re holding onto it.
  3. When you let go of trying to control, wanting validation or desiring safety, you can have them.

Ever notice when someone wants or needs a relationship? The objects of their desire want to run. Same thing with money, health or anything.

The freedom everyone longs for breezes in when we let go because then we allow our spirit, our wise self within, to be in charge.

Freedom can happen in seconds not years. 

But we block ourselves from having what we really, really want when we clutch onto yucky feelings in our chest or gut or being stuck in our heads.

There are underlying beliefs we’ve tucked away that impact us, but they can be prompted to surface and be released. Everyone has the ability to let go although some resist.

So, we come back to who’s in charge of you? You DO have a choice.

Moving Tribute – Happy Memorial Day!

While you enjoy the liberty to do whatever you choose on Memorial Day – be with friends and family, catch up on your to do list, have fun, work, kick back and do nothing – there are those who risked their lives so we can enjoy these freedoms.

Memorial Day is a time to recognize what others have given in service for us to live in a democracy in the U.S.A. Although imperfect at times (well, lots of times), we are on a quest to create what the Preamble to the Constitution calls “a more perfect union.”

The Preamble is a short, introductory statement of the Constitution’s fundamental purposes and guiding principles. It posits what the Founding Fathers’ intentions were regarding the Constitution’s meaning and what they hoped it would achieve:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Recently, I learned that each year on Memorial Day, a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 PM local time.

As you go about your life, take a moment to give a sacred nod of appreciation to those who cared enough about us and this ideal of democracy to serve their country. 

For those who made the ultimate sacrifice is a moving YouTube video tribute “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams.

“In honor of the soldiers who give us the freedoms we have today.”
