Escaping Financial Collapse

April 18, 2022

Be like a powerful river going around obstacles,

A woman came to me on the verge of closing the doors of her office and working from home instead. The economy had taken its toll on a once thriving business, and fear had taken its toll on her spirit.

Recently she shared a story that demonstrates her attitude that turned her business around.

Her company had been courting a prospective client. Although they liked her and what her company brought to the table, in the end, they didn’t want to leave their current, long-time vendor.

The staff grumbled about it for a few minutes and then returned to work. As she sat at her desk, she shook her head and said to herself:

“OK. We’re obviously not supposed to have this contract. I’m letting it go, and something better will come.” This was a departure from her old attitude of worry, fear and images of doom that would have consumed her.

As she clicked the Send and Receive button, an email appeared offering a contract which is now bringing her company three times more profit than the one that turned her down! Although only 1 ½ months into the year, her company surpassed her $250,000 first quarter goal and is bringing in $355,000 with over $150,000 in profits. What a dramatic shift from before when business was at its last gasp of survival.

By the way, her motto this year is Divine flow. Let “stuff” go.

She also learned that God is her supply, not any one person or company. For example, she expected a big client to come through with a contract. She kept waiting and getting frustrated and more desperate.

When she let go of her expectation and opened up to other possibilities, opened up to the idea that her supply comes from a divine source and not from anyone in particular, then business poured in from many directions.

A year later the big client still hasn’t come through, but her business is flourishing. Without the panic and struggle, she was able to float to the surface of the quicksand of chaos, and success greeted her.

It takes practice to choose to trust instead of giving our power to fear.

Being groomed since childhood with the habit of fear, I’ve had a lifetime of observing the sneaky ways it shows up. My life became shipwrecked when I allowed myself to be seduced by its siren calls.

Eventually, it became harder to hold onto anxiety and easier to let go and trust things will work out – regardless of appearances. I decided to give up worry because it just wasn’t working for me. And when I let go, miracles happen.

Are You Teachable?

July 26, 2021

A woman I knew took personal, salsa dancing lessons from a friend of mine who was a popular, salsa teacher in town. While the woman enjoyed dancing, she had little dance training nor did she have experience in the rhythm or style of Latin dance.

However, that didn’t stop her from telling my friend how she was teaching her wrong and what the steps were supposed to be. She wouldn’t listen to anything other than what she wanted to hear, wouldn’t see how the dance actually looked other than her impression of how she thought it was supposed to look, wouldn’t talk about anything other than her interpretation of what the dance was.

After a couple of classes, she decided to stop the lessons.

She wasn’t teachable, and she wouldn’t allow herself to listen or learn beyond her preconceived ideas.

Several years ago, another woman was desperate to join one of my mastermind programs. Part of the experience is 1:1 partnering sessions where every couple of weeks team members switch partners.

In the first week, this woman went to each of five team members to share her story.

After politely listening, each member then redirected her attention to solutions. She wasn’t interested.

Her intention was on others hearing her story and feeling validated. Her focus was centered on her confusion, her circumstances and how what she wanted to do wasn’t working, not on getting on track or creating actual results.

Five people called me individually to tell me how they really tried to help her, but she wasn’t open.  Not getting the type of attention she wanted, she left the group after the second week.

“Listen, be teachable. Laugh at good stories and learn to tell them. For as long as you are green, you can grow.”    Mother Teresa

“Be teachable. That is the whole secret.”      Vernon Howard

Being heard by others is a gift. Are you also open to receive?

What can you do to be teachable? Choose to be open to the guidance that life brings you moment by moment. Sounds too simple, but your intention will open you to learn.

Are you open to receive ideas and solutions or is your focus on having your story heard? Are you reliving familiar feelings when you repeat your story?

Are you teachable?

Angry? Frustrated? You’re Not Alone.

July 19, 2021

Here’s an excerpt of an email I sent a client who’s been experiencing challenges.

Recently, I’ve observed people transitioning from the way their life has been to something new and different. That can bring up a variety of feelings, some pleasant and others not so much.

I remember thinking in the early 1990s that my entire life was about frustration. There wasn’t any part of it that worked, from health, finances and career to my marriage. All were falling apart. This perfect storm became the springboard that has shaped the rest of my life of personal discovery and helping people like you.

Change is in the air, welcoming it, liking it, wanting it or not.

For some, it’s an exciting adventure.

For others, a dark cloud hangs overhead.

You, like the rest of us, have had a lifetime of listening to the false guidance of your ego, that façade of an identity. For you, it includes difficult emotions like anger and frustration. These emotions are like software glitches.

Here’s what Wikipedia says about glitches… computer glitches are incorrectly written software, incorrect instructions given by the operator, undetected invalid data, undetected communications errors…

You are not your software.

In contrast, your Essence is prompting you to listen within. This is the part of you that knows “all is well.”

Abraham-Hicks said:

“Your emotions are your indicator of how your active thought blends, or doesn’t blend, with the thought Source is thinking about the same subject in the same moment.”

The inner turmoil you’re experiencing is the conflict between your ego’s perspective and that of the Source within you.

Naturally, your ego is taking an all out stand for you to listen to its lies, lies that lead you to feel frustrated, angry and needing to sort things out.

To protect itself, it uses a type of logic in which it’s already trained you, indoctrinated into you, so you believe that it’s telling you the truth. It presents its case that leaves you feeling anger and frustration.

The logic only works if you see things from its limited and fearful point of view.

Habitual thinking creates entrenched neural pathways in the brain. These become your default, your easy “go to” ways you react. These reactions, instead of responses, don’t always serve you.

Just because ideas are in your head does NOT make them true!

However, you can most assuredly access your true Essence instead, as it is YOU!

A key is to differentiate between the whispers of your ego and your Essence.

The ego certainly doesn’t want you to be around positive people that shed light on how it manipulates you. This way it has you, back where you can be controlled by the stress and chaos of unsupportive emotions.

In defense of the ego, it thinks it’s protecting you. But these patterns were created from a child’s approach to survival. When presented with adult situations, the peace of your Essence offers greater insight and direction.

Ask your Essence to step forward to be heard, and choose to listen to its guidance.

Tyranny or Freedom? Special 4th of July Message

July 4, 2021
Thomas Jefferson Memorial

While living in Washington, D.C., I’d park my car, run up 58 steps and be in awe at the towering and erect presence of one of the great men who founded the United States of America. Thomas Jefferson also served as our third President from 1801 to 1809.

I sometimes visited the Jefferson Memorial late at night when I could be alone in this hallowed sanctum. It was possible to do because it’s open around the clock.

Standing amidst the white marble steps and building, my eyes would gaze at the 129′ bronze statue as well as excerpts of the Declaration of Independence, whose principal author was Jefferson.

However, the reason I kept returning was to slowly turn in a circle to read the inscription under the dome:

I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.”  Thomas Jefferson to Dr. Benjamin Rush, September 23, 1800.

I didn’t realize at the time how these words, which still bring tears to my eyes, would be emblazoned within me. They inspired my lifetime passion, “upon the altar of God,” to help others and myself live in freedom through liberation of the “tyranny over the mind of man.”

The definition of tyranny includes the oppression, often cruel, of people or a government over others. Another aspect is an unreasonable or arbitrary use of power or control.

For me, there’s a twist to this. It reminds me of a quote by American Navy Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry in 1813.  Most famously, it was quipped by cartoonist Walt Kelly on a couple of Earth Day posters when Pogo said:

The voice in your head, motivated by an insecure ego, can be your enemy and create the greatest form of tyranny.

These inner rants can be cruel, unreasonable, oppressive and arbitrary. If you allow this to dominate, you relinquish control of your life.

Know that you have the power of choice!

You can choose to listen to your Essence, instead.

Especially those familiar with my teachings about “choosing,” you might be interested in this. When I was thirty years old, I had the first sentence of the following quote by Jefferson on a wall plate of a light switch:

“Freedom is the right to choose: the right to create for oneself the alternatives of choice. Without the possibility of choice, and the exercise of choice, a man is not a man but a member, an instrument, a thing.”

Pondering this message regularly, I knew there was more to it than I could understand at the time. I’m now aware of this:

We are free to choose. We are so free, we can choose fear or freedom.

We choose our thoughts, which impact our emotions, which create our lives. What hinders our freedom is allowing our minds to be tyrannized by any limiting beliefs. From anyone. From any circumstance or condition. From the tyrannical inner voice.

A client showed me a picture of a tow truck driver who quickly and skillfully used multiple cables to turn upright a parked truck that had been hit by a car and had completely flipped over.

The driver was very good-natured, and his demeanor radiated a cheerful attitude and peace.

Both of his arms stopped below his elbows.

He had a prosthetic leg, too.

He is a living demonstration of choosing his attitude and outlook on life. He wasn’t tyrannized by his physical condition and whatever caused it.

We in America celebrate our country’s birthday on the Fourth of July, our Independence Day. It’s a time of freedom.

While talking with others about a life-changing break for freedom from a highly abusive relationship I made during the week of July 4th when I was 20, others shared their stories of freedom that happened around this time, too.

Soon, the French will celebrate their day of freedom on July 14, Bastille Day.

Tyranny or freedom?

You can choose to hold in your mind’s eye the freedom and intentions that our forefathers envisioned while founding the United States.

What freedom and independence do you choose for you?

Start with freeing yourself from the tyranny of your mind, where nothing and nobody can touch you.

Short Stories about Kindness, Anger and Frank Sinatra

March 3, 2020

How would you feel if this were you?

A friend waited behind a car as it sat through not one but TWO green lights. Well, he had several choice words for that man.

Angrily he drove his car next to the driver and a little girl who sat next to him. The man turned to my friend and said, “I have to take my daughter to the hospital, but I don’t know which way to turn. Can you help me?”

His anger and judgment vaporized with this new perspective.

While waiting at a counter in a small shop, the woman next to me wanted to reclaim a lay-away that had been there for several months. The clerk very politely explained that their policy was for 30 days, she didn’t have a record of it, and the owner wasn’t present.

The customer responded by heartlessly debasing the clerk for being rude, which she wasn’t being at all.

After she left, the clerk told me that the customer had no idea of the challenges in her life and how much courage it took for her just to come to work.

If the customer looked beyond her self-interests, she may have handled things differently.

Then there’s this story of kindness with Frank Sinatra.

At a party hosted by Frank Sinatra at his ex-wife’s home, a young woman accidentally knocked over one of a pair of alabaster birds and smashed it. His daughter Nancy began to say how they were one of her mother’s favorites, but Frank stopped her with a look. As 40 guests stared in stunned silence, he quickly walked over to the other bird. He flicked it with a finger to the floor and smashed it, too.  Then he kindly put his around the woman and told her in a way to diffuse the situation and her discomfort, “That’s okay, kid.”

 Ahhh, grace in action.

From individuals to world politics, I’ve heard many stories this week of missed opportunities for consideration, kindness or communication.

An acting manager complicated instead of resolved a situation while treating a customer like a low-life.
A delay in a project with no urgent deadline elicited unnecessary rebuke.
People locked into negative viewpoints while refusing dialogue.

The ego wears many masks including: righteous indignation; superiority posing as the high road; impatience; sticking it to people; projecting one’s issues onto others; belittling; and judgment.

How do you respond when things don’t go your way and your buttons are pushed?

Everyone has bad days and maybe you could’ve done some things differently. But there are times you’ve chosen grace and kindness. You’ve listened; considered other viewpoints before jumping to conclusions; welcomed communication; and allowed people to be themselves although different from you.

The most important person to be kind and non-judgmental to is you. You can’t give away what you don’t have.

How does this affect your goals?

When you’re hard on yourself and others, you may repel what you want most or find it slipping through your fingers once you get it.

What can you do about it right now? Just change your perspective – consider another way of looking at things.

Ask yourself, “What did I learn?”

Fast forward to the present moment as you leave the past behind. Benefit from your lessons and move on to your next adventure. One option is to do it without judgment, with grace.

Quotes to Inspire You to Believe in Yourself

February 24, 2020

“Just believe that there is genuine creative magic in believing, and magic there will be, for belief will supply the power which will enable you to succeed in everything you undertake.”

Claude Bristol

While putting together a new program, I researched books and teachers who I studied under or whose works I read years ago.

The Magic of Believing by Claude M. Bristol is one of these books. Even though he’s not included in my Conscious Creators’ Course, he very much deserves mention.

Claude Bristol (1891-1951) devoted much of his life focused on the power of thought and the effect that belief has on actually manifesting goals. He studied extensively hundreds of books on psychology, religion, metaphysics and beyond. While doing this, he saw the “golden thread” that weaves its way through all religious and esoteric teachings: the magic power of believing.

Inspiring millions of readers over the decades, I’m including just a few nuggets of his wisdom with you.

With gratitude,

Virginia

“Every person is the creation of himself, the image of his own thinking and believing . As individuals think and believe, so they are.”

“To become the person you would like to be, you create a mental picture of your newly conceived self, and if you continue to hold it, the day will come when you are in reality, that person.”

“What you believe yourself to be, you are.”

“The more interest you take in your work, naturally the more attention you give it, and the greater are the results.”

“You have to think big to be big.”

“What you exhibit outwardly, you are inwardly.”

“Learn to be quick in your decisions, and audacious in your actions.”

“All great men, are men of quick decision.”

“Thought is the original source of all wealth, all success, all material gain, all great discoveries and inventions, and of all achievement.”

“To win you’ve got to stay in the game.”

“Always try to do something for the other fellow and you will be agreeably surprised how things come your way – how many pleasing things are done for you.”

“If you believe you can do a thing, you can do it.”

“If you can convince yourself, you can convince the other fellow.”

Your very life is your thinking and the result of your thinking processes.”

“What the fool cannot learn, he laughs at, thinking that by his laughter he shows superiority instead of latent idiocy.”

“Whatever we fix our thoughts upon, or steadily focus our imaginations upon, that is what we attract.”

“It is the image created in his mind that gives reality to the world outside of him.

“Thought attracts that upon which it is directed.”

“Whatever we fix our thoughts upon, or steadily focus our imaginations upon, that is what we attract.”

Short Story: Frustration with a Happy Ending

February 17, 2020

A client manifested nearly doubling the size of her facility for a great price while attracting countless miracles in the process – including her competition wanting to reserve a room there for a weekly group. This could translate to more customers learning about her and expanding her current business.

However, there were so many demands for her new space that opportunity turned to frustration as scheduling became a distressing challenge… until she had a change of heart.

She emailed this to me so I can share it with you.

“I’ve been seriously stressing over how to work this other group into the schedule without upsetting people who currently are taking my classes during those times.

“Of course, I was hearing many opinions on changing to different times and was trying to figure out a way to keep everyone happy – including the other group.

“I realized at some point early Tuesday (somewhere around 3 or 4 AM) that it would work out the way it was meant to, and let it go.

“With or without the other group, my business has a great schedule and a lot to offer.

“By Tuesday afternoon, we easily figured out the schedule with the other group, and it looks great!

I listened to my gut and let it go.

At 8 AM on Friday, she gave me an update that had just occurred within the previous half hour.

“Here’s another miracle.”

She had renovations scheduled so she could open her doors in three days – with the exception of painting. Again, she let it go thinking it could happen after the opening, even though it would require taking down a big wall of mirrors that she was about to have installed.

Until, that is, she casually mentioned her situation to a client who told her, “I can paint it this afternoon!!”

You don’t have to figure things out in advance for them to work out.
When you let go, you open to miracles.

5 Steps to Make Change Easy

February 11, 2020

In this part of my dream, I was in a room filled with well-worn, cushioned, reclining chairs. I thought there was an available seat near a window that overlooked trees, but it was taken. In fact, every seat I could see was taken except for a too-small-for-me wooden chair at my side. I thought there might be a chair available on the other side of the smallish room. But if I left the wooden chair, someone else might take it, and I could be left with nothing. Then I woke up.

It’s a risk to let go of what’s available, even if it’s uncomfortable, too small or isn’t a fit.

In my dream, there wasn’t a reason why I had to stay in that room, even if there wasn’t a place to sit on the other side.

I awoke knowing to let go of people, attitudes and situations that no longer fit the person I’ve become.

We often settle for things that don’t work when we feel that the familiar is safe and secure – or at least known. This may lead us to believe the unknown is risky.

However, nothing stays the same forever. Economies go up and down. People and work change.

It reminds me of a woman who didn’t want to move because she enjoyed the companionship of a friend who lived nearby. Soon after, that friend sold her house and moved out of town.

What are you afraid of leaving?

Some are afraid of leaving a job that’s on a downward spiral. Others cling to non-supportive relationships. Some hold onto old business models.  Is something really better than nothing?

And who says that replacing something will leave you with nothing?

While writing, I saw a client’s email that I saved three years ago:

I recently met a wonderful woman who was reduced to tears by “friends” she admired but had rejected her. My advice? Don’t waste your time. Look for WONDERFUL people who make you feel good. And focus on your wonderful self who is “crying” to be seen and nurtured.

Change is always for good. Something positive always emerges, regardless of appearances. But, you don’t have to wait for a catastrophe to make a change.

What have you outgrown?

Are you discouraged, stuck or frustrated about something that hasn’t been working? Are you holding on to a belief about it? This may be the reason your life or business isn’t what you’d like it to be.

Perhaps you only need a change in attitude or perspective. Another viewpoint may reveal the solution.

By the way, don’t think you’ve got to see the big picture, figure everything out and know all the steps to take before taking action. You can begin where you are and with what you know right now.

Just start. Then by taking a step at a time, subsequent steps will reveal themselves.

TIP: You’re always given your next step – listen within for what it is. You can prevent overwhelm by redirecting your focus on the present and doing one thing at a time.

You can make change easy on yourself by using these five steps:

  1. Be willing to consider a change. Willingness opens you to possibilities even if you’re not ready to commit to a change.
  2. Take consistent action in your new direction. If you were to make a change, what action would you take? Do it. Then tune in to the next step, and do that.
  3. Get support from a friend or coach. Discussing possibilities, being heard and receiving validation can be powerful steps to clarity, action and change.
  4. Choose that the change and lessons learned be gentle. If you believe change is hard, it is. There are people who remain positive even in the face of disaster. Set an intention to make changes with ease and grace.
  5. Breathe your way through it. Breathing deeply in a relaxed way puts you in divine flow instead of the flow of fear.

Give yourself a gift of a new beginning. You have the power within to create changes without drama, with ease and grace.

What to Do When There’s Not Enough

February 3, 2020

During her mastermind meeting, a team member shared that she wasn’t getting new business although she previously had momentum and success.

Instead of wallowing in the doldrums of what wasn’t enough, she refocused on her goals – what she really wanted. She tweaked them, felt good about them and energized them with her positive attention.

Very soon after, she received two new contracts from people who came out of the blue. Keep in mind, she hadn’t had activity in this part of her business for months. She and her husband talked about it being a miracle… one she triggered because of how she changed her focus.

You, too, have complete power to redirect your focus and turn any part of your life or business onto the path of success.

Your focus inspires your feelings which, in turn, creates results. Are they the ones you choose?

What’s not enough for you? Money? Business? Relationships? Time? Energy? Health?

Do you feel yucky when you think about what you feel isn’t enough? Oops. You don’t want to stay there too long because that’s the energy that creates not having enough.

Focusing on what’s not enough can be a familiar habit, but it will NOT get you what you want.

If you were heading off a cliff, do you stay the course or turn the vehicle in another direction? You turn the wheel if you want to live.

Dwelling on low energy thoughts and feelings will only bring you more of what’s not working.

TIP: What to Do When There’s Not Enough

Imagine how you’d feel if you saw a laughing baby or playful puppy. A happy smile comes over your face. That creates good feeling mojo.

Find anything in your life or business that can bring a happy smile to you. C’mon, it’s there. Look for it instead of the yucky stuff.

What creates a feeling of gratitude? You’re alive and breathing, so you have the gift of life to go forth another day. I’m sure there’s a lot more. You may feel abundantly full of them.

1. Shift your focus by listing ten reasons why you’re grateful.
2. Quickly look at what’s not enough in your life or business.
3. Next, redirect your focus and feelings. What do you choose instead?

Not enough business or money? Focus on having more instead of the lack of it.

What would more look and feel like? You happy with clients, biz associates and relationships you love. Feeling empowered because you’re watching your bank account grow. Feeling healthy, energized and great in your body. Loving your vacation with family or friends. Satisfied with where you live. Reveling in the time and freedom to enjoy life more. Feels good, right?

Friends or clients feeling like life-sucking, energy vampires? See yourself enjoying the friendship of supportive and positive people where there’s mutual respect, a well-balanced give and take… they exist.

Focus on what you choose with good feeling mojo. Yes, yes. The “not enough stuff” is still there, but that’s not a wise place to invest your attention. Otherwise, you’ll get more of the same.

The way out of not having enough is to redirect your focus.

As Socrates said:  “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

You have control of how you feel regardless of the circumstances. Even if they’re dire.

You can choose your focus!! Use it. Don’t abuse it, and you’ll have way more than enough.

When you see any positive success at all, focus on that and let the momentum snowball. If you give your new focus a chance, you could see success faster than you thought possible.

Are You Teachable?

January 28, 2020

A woman I knew took personal salsa dancing lessons from a friend of mine, who was a big salsa teacher in town.

Part of the experience was one-on-one partnering sessions, where every couple of weeks team members switch partners. This woman went to each of five team members to share her story in the first week.

After politely listening, each member then redirected her attention to solutions. She wasn’t interested.

Her intention was on others hearing her story and feeling validated. She wanted an audience, not a way out of her situation. Her focus was centered on her confusion, her circumstances and how what she wanted to do wasn’t working, not on getting on track or manifesting actual results.
