Stop Shoulding on Yourself

October 21, 2019

Have you ever had a deadline or goal but felt stuck and simply couldn’t take action? Maybe you were “shoulding” on yourself and immobilized from your mental tyranny.

In August 2001, every day for two weeks, I sat in front of my computer to write a seminar…and not one word came. Nothing.

I put so much pressure on myself that I stifled any creativity to write.

Eventually, I listened to what I was telling myself: I should’ve already done this, and I should’ve done it years ago.

I made peace with the situation by shifting my perspective from feeling “resistance is futile” to: I am where I am, and from here I will start.

Over the next four months I wrote a 60-page workbook… and then, because it became so big, I didn’t know what to do with it. After all of that work, it sat on a pile.

Fast forward seven years. I remembered the workbook when I discovered I didn’t like a manual for a four-day retreat I was to facilitate. Oh, did I mention it was less than a week away?

The workbook was a key for breakthroughs and fun throughout the event and saved me from being in another writing rut.

Retreat Workbook

TIP: Stop shoulding on yourself. Self-judgment holds you back. Like it or not, this is where you are, so make peace within by allowing you to be in the present moment.

When you accept yourself and your circumstance, you let go of the shoulds, pressure and negative self-talk.  Then any small step will get you started. When this happens, you get out of your rut and pave the way for momentum.

Feeling Overwhelmed?

February 5, 2018

overwhelm

Life is moving quickly. For me, lots of my goals are manifesting, which is a good thing. Because they’re happening all at once, though, I started feeling overwhelmed.

Here are just a few highlights from this week only:

Choosing colors and painting a room; writing copy and meeting with web designers; servicemen working on my computer, completion of installation of antennas on my roof and wiring for a cell phone booster plus my internet; meeting with clients; multiple deadlines; purchasing a variety of new equipment; helping several friends; seeing two new health practitioners; and a toilet that needs a new overflow assembly (what a metaphor). You get the idea. I share this because perhaps, with whatever you’re experiencing, you can relate.

Most of these required many hours of research and learning about stuff I never thought I’d care about, from oscillation of electronic signals to website divis to which surge protectors’ ohms, joules and products actually can protect my various electronic devices. This had to be done before I could even start, purchase correct items; converse with and hire the right people, make intelligent decisions or fix mistakes from when I didn’t know any better.

Creating momentum is a key to success.

However, when catching up started to feel like I was being dragged behind, I knew I was beginning to be out of sync with myself.

The pace didn’t feel good, and I started to feel pressure. I was making great progress, but it wasn’t enjoyable.

Life sends us a HUGE clue that we’ve wandered off the yellow brick road when we’re not feeling good.

Instead of creating a story justifying why I felt this way, I got quiet and listened to my inner voice for guidance.

What I heard was to set an intention for my life to be in divine order, balance and flow.

In the following days, I noticed I was still busy. But things were getting done easier, and I felt more on top of activities instead of getting run over by them. I took time over the weekend to rest, too.

By intending divine order, everything doesn’t happen at once, even if they’re good things.

By intending divine balance, we allow a bigger perspective to orchestrate our lives instead of pushing ahead from a limited viewpoint.

By intending divine flow, we allow ourselves to be in harmony with a natural rhythm of life instead of focusing on chaos, what’s not working or getting sucked into other people’s flows .

From my upcoming e-book 4 Keys to Be Richly Compensated Doing What You Love:

When you get out of your own way, you allow your goals to manifest with grace and ease instead of trying to make things happen.

From my Resolved for Results program:

TIP: If you choose a life of divine flow, but don’t believe that asking for it can make a difference, surrender the doubt, the part that doesn’t believe. Choose to be open and willing to receive what you ask for.

Are you feeling overwhelmed or wondering how you’re going to keep up? Many people are either doing their best to stay afloat or bravely going into the unknown as they take their lives to another level.

Either way, life can be busy and even confusing.

Moving ahead in ways with which you’re not familiar often creates emotional discomfort.

Why? Your inner essence is guiding you forward in a direction so you can have what you want, the change for which you’ve been asking. Your physical brain, on the other hand, doesn’t have new neural pathways in place to make sense of it all… yet. In time, it will.

Setting intentions can be a lifesaver. They take mere seconds to think or say, don’t cost a cent and take no effort. The more you allow yourself to believe and receive, the better they work.

Instead of just putting up with whatever’s going on in your life, ask your inner wisdom for direction.

You can experiment with choosing to be in divine order, balance and flow. What do you have to lose except frustration, overwhelm and stress?

Do You Wish Things Had Turned Out Differently?

August 7, 2017

Not happy with her life, she felt depressed for quite a while.

Although her current employment has gratifying moments, she’s caught in a dead-end job that’s light years away from the passion that lights her up.

Why did she stay in a funk for so long? She kept reflecting on her past and projecting it on her future.

In her ego’s way of thinking, success would continue to elude her no matter how hard she tried.  “Nothing will ever work, so why bother?”

Another watched big parts of her life and years-long business eclipse into oblivion, and she felt that she was “losing everything.”

Yet another looked back at a lifetime of accomplishments and compared them to others. She thought life (and money) had passed her by while she was preoccupied dredging through drama, mediocrity and poor choices in relationships and affiliations. Ignoring the good stuff, she felt her grand total added up to not being not good enough.

The ego likes to judge and compare and creates suffering in the process.

However, when each looked deeper, their perspectives changed.

To sum it up in a few words, that was then and this is now.

Now, each is focused on starting a new chapter.

Life is full of twists and turns, and the longer you live, the more ups as well as downs occur. Your interpretation of them determines if you see these as mostly peaks or mostly valleys.

Regret is a complete waste of time and energy.

Once, while talking to one of my teachers, I said I felt like several years of my life were a wasteland. With a big world out there, my world felt barren.

He asked, “What did you learn?”

Interestingly, while outwardly my life lacked adventure, it produced one of my biggest growth experiences.

What I thought was a dry desert was actually part of my schooling to more effectively help people get unstuck and, instead, be richly compensated doing what they love.

When momentum from my former, fast-paced activities slowed down, I thought my life had stalled. I later realized I had been on a fast train heading in the wrong direction. Shifting gears provided an opportunity to let go of my old ways that I thought were my “right” ways.

My new track was the route to greater authenticity, fulfillment and success.

You are scripting your life and business.

You don’t have to try to defend or justify why you are where you are now because of your past history.

Simply live in the present and move forward.

If you don’t like parts of it, how can you put them in a more empowered perspective?

Ask your inner wisdom how everything that’s happened in your life and business has all been a foundation for your next chapter.

If you wished your life or business had turned out differently, this is your moment to gain insight and, as if you’re writing a play, create your next act. Script it so that the best is yet to come.

With gratitude,

Virginia

Are Others Affecting How Much Money You Make?

July 17, 2017

A client’s business was doing great when suddenly her success screeched to a halt with only one completed transaction in nearly six months!

Being someone who looks on the positive side, she regularly reported having several deals that were pending or appeared to be sure bets. However, it turned out that each one fell apart for one reason or another.

To top it off, she gave several, well-received marketing presentations that were supposed to bring referrals, but that didn’t work out.

While talking about it during a 1:1 session, she connected the dots.

Her momentum stopped the same month she became the leader of a service group that helps people who are, shall I say, challenged in their housing situations.

In addition to their poverty thinking, she noticed that when her group is together, their conversations drift into drama about their lives.

Add to this a new boss who complains a lot, which motivates my client to schedule appointments so she and her manager are together in the office as little as possible.

At the end of our session together, she realized she had to take better care of her energy.

Three days later during her mastermind team meeting by phone, she shared the following.

Instead of driving with others to do their charitable work, and thinking about butterflies and rainbows to tune out their whining, she took care of herself by driving her own car.

She said, “We have to guard our energy as if our life depends on it, because it does.”

The following day, only four days after her aha moments and after months of setbacks, I received her enthusiastic voicemail.

“I want to let you know it has been a fantastic, fantastic day.”

  • “I met a client last night after we got off our call. He submitted all his documentation immediately, and he’s ready for approval.”
  • Another client of hers had a significant issue that miraculously got resolved, so his deal is moving along.
  • Another woman’s deal is now in the process of closing, too.
  • Plus, she received a call to present to 35 professionals in her target market.

She ignited her momentum by releasing other people’s negative energy and being more attentive to taking care of her own.

Her mastermind team member commented, “The energy of others weaves its way into our lives.”

Wallace D. Wattles wrote in his classic book The Science of Getting Rich, “Get rich; that is the best way you can help the poor. And you cannot hold the mental image which is to make you rich if you fill your mind with pictures of poverty.”

Poverty can come in many forms, such as money, spirit, focus, associations, confidence and beliefs.

Pay attention to the energy others are weaving in your life. How can you take better care of your energy? What unseen energy of others might be taking a toll on you and your finances?

Wondering what to do about it? Ask your Essence. It has your “soulution.”

With gratitude,

Virginia

Let Go of Ghosts

June 5, 2017
mountain bike ghost

A mountain biker rode on a trail she’d been on at least 50 times. During some of those rides, she’d fallen and hurt herself. Because of this history, she was haunted by what the biking community calls “ghosts.” She remembered the injuries, where the obstacles are located that caused her pain and avoided them.

Her experience changed, though, when she did this very same trail with a group of riders who traveled this way for the first time, including a woman who’s a national champion, and were decades younger.

Not having negative memories, they tackled the trail with abandon.

While riding she said to herself, “Let’s pretend I haven’t been on this trail before.”

It was a whole new experience. She quickly rode over obstacles that she’d been avoiding and was unscathed. Didn’t fall down. Didn’t get hurt.

She told me that it’s the same in business.

Don’t let old ghosts from the past, which cause you to hesitate, get in the way of taking action and being successful.

Let go of the bad experiences.

What ghosts can you let go so you can tackle your life, business or work with abandon?

Find a way to create positive momentum so you get through without giving them a second thought.

With gratitude, Virginia

TIP: Don’t Labor

September 6, 2016

Look up synonyms for labor, and you’ll find words like hard work, drudgery, struggle, toil and exhausting.

Society has trained us to believe that work, work, work, the harder we work, is the way to get ahead.

That work alone will bring you results is a flawed premise.

A man was looking for a job.

He sent out 50 resumes.

However, he told me he didn’t expect to get any replies.

Massive action – yes.

Results – zilch.

Hard work and action aren’t the keys.

Inspired action is.

Resolved for Results Mastermind Principle #4 is:

I am open to the mastermind energy leading me, and I take action by following through with my inspiration and guidance.

For success, align your energy for results FIRST and then take action.

Instead of putting your nose to the grindstone (ouch), FEEL GOOD before taking action.

Your TIP for success is FIRST to have fun and create momentum with Good Feeling Mojo, then take action.

It takes practice to build your Good Feeling Mojo muscle.

It works the opposite of weight lifting.

You build this muscle by letting go of the weight of the world – your problems, politics and pains.

What’s left is your natural state – happy, free, having fun, being fulfilled.

The more you’re aligned with You, like a magnet, the more opportunities come your way.

It’s what we call being on a magic carpet ride of success.

Try it out. Instead of laboring, enjoy life and what you do.

Not only will you receive far greater results, you’ll create an even better life that’s worth living.

TIP: Are You in the Flow?

April 12, 2016

waterfall IcelandWater

In Divine flow. Tapping into the mastermind energy. Aligning with your Soulgoals. Being in the vortex.

What do they mean, how do you know if you’re in it and what difference does it make if you are or you’re not?

To explain what I mean by divine flow, and all of these names lead you to a similar experience, here’s an excerpt from my program Resolved for Results: A Step-by-Step Guide to Do What You Love… even if you failed before, lost hope, are afraid, stressed or confused.

When you choose to be in divine flow, you allow the universal energy and your spirit to take you beyond the daily chaos and ego’s desires.

Divine flow elevates you to a zone beyond fear and resistance, to be at peace with what is. You relax and release fixed ideas of how you think your life should go by knowing there’s a bigger plan in play.

What difference does it make? You choose.

How do you know if you’re OUT of it. (Pun kind of intended.)

When you’re out of or against the flow, it’s like swimming upstream.

Life is hard, frustrating and a struggle. You’re worried, things aren’t working. You’re full of fear, anxiety, lack, limitation, doubting yourself, and business isn’t running smoothly.

I know you’ve experienced these at times. Maybe now.

Imagine changing the channel on your radio.

You have to be on the correct frequency to hear an AM station. If you’re tuned to FM, you won’t receive AM.

When you’re not in the flow, you’re tuned to a channel to receive a bunch of stuff that doesn’t make you feel good.

Then, it’s easy to blame others for problems, health, accidents, finances, break downs, and burdens.

Yeah, all that complaining about things builds energy to generate even bigger problems that make you want to complain more.

Yeah, it seems like it shouldn’t be that way. That we can spew our anger and frustration and somehow life will change because we’re having a hissy fit.

That’s not the way the Universe is set up.

Instead, life matches the way you feel and ups the ante.

There’s a far easier way, if you’re willing to let go of the habit of grumbling and feeling bad about what you don’t like.

If life isn’t working, change your channel.

Feeling grateful is a good place to start.

How you know if you’re IN it.

The momentum you create is like a powerful waterfall.

I took notes during a recent mastermind meeting when a new, team member described her life now:

I’m zipping through life with energy, happiness and vitality. Never in my life have I been happier. Everything gets done. Everything is wonderful. Everyone is great.

Usually my life is like a roller coaster – up and down. Frustrated. Not going right.

Before, business kept me so occupied, I didn’t have time for my creative side – painting and singing.

Now, I paint every day, and the ideas are immense. I see colors and patterns. It’s just incredible. I’m singing in a church choir again. Before, I thought it would take time away from my family. It doesn’t.

Business is going great, and I’m not worried about it. I’m so excited. I don’t have the vocabulary to explain what I’m doing.

She said instead of worry, she visualizes what she chooses for her life throughout the day.

Instead of stress, she sees her business working.

When you focus on what you choose long enough with good feeling mojo, similar to what Olympic athletes do, you’ve tuned into that channel.

Eventually, there’s no gap between where you are and where you choose to be.

You’re in the right place at the right time, saying and doing the right things.

Solutions appear.

You are a living example of being in divine flow.

Your TIP is to give yourself a time-out today from complaining. About anything. Traffic. People. Politics. Finances. Weight. How parts of your life suck.

Let it go.

Simultaneously, choose to be in divine flow.

Maybe you can only manage to do this for two minutes.

Tomorrow, maybe two and a half.

Or backslide and start again immediately.

Being with supportive people who consciously create a vortex of mastermind energy makes it easier than trying to do this all by yourself.

By the way, before posting today’s TIP…  I just got off the phone with an amazing mastermind team – successful people expanding to BIGGER success.

Everyone commented on the joy and excitement to be part of a collective energy with conscious people while tapping into the mastermind energy.

“Our combined energy is changing everything for us and the world.”

Miracles and successes created since they focused attention on masterminding were astounding.

Opportunities out of the blue. New clients. Transformation. Inspiring. Blessing. Spiritual journey. Not alone. Support. Encouragement. These are a few of the words they shared to describe this morning’s meeting.

Would you benefit from being in the flow?

TIP: My 12 Survival Lessons from Challenging Times

February 29, 2016

Sometimes when things fall apart, they may actually be falling into place.

I’m sharing gifts from one of the most challenging times I’ve ever had. Throughout my life, there were lessons that I stubbornly hadn’t learned, and my experience gave me an opportunity to get them in a condensed amount of time… or potentially lose everything.

I later recognized that these were a shortcut in preparation for me to do what I love in a bigger way. Without really getting their value, I would’ve stayed where I was and sabotaged my future success.

Last year, many in my community were hit by a devastating flood that washed away both homes and people. I was fortunate not to be affected by this directly. However, over the second half of last year, the effects of a mold outbreak wreaked havoc with my home, walls, furniture, health and income.

While listening to several people this week, I thought some of my insights may help you, too.

  1. A positive attitude with fear running underneath doesn’t cut it. I had to live in “good feeling mojo” and focus only on what’s working and on what feels good to me – with no luxury to slip into low energy emotions. Feeling good creates momentum for things to work out for the better. Otherwise, because for a while I could barely think straight or talk coherently (sometimes I could only smile, nod and not speak), I could’ve lost everything while immersed in the haze of mold.
  2. One morning, panic completely enveloped me. Knowing that chewing on and regurgitating my problems was a dead end, I shifted to look for solutions and found them. I had to do this for months, often looking at only the next step at a time.
  3. Through this I really learned how to dump fear, even that which runs in the background like a low-grade fever. That I did this still blows my mind… which is where fear lies. Fear isn’t real; it’s in your head. If there’s a situation to be addressed, fear and worry won’t bring you solutions. Plus, if you’re afraid, you open yourself up to others controlling you for their benefit.
  4. I’d been service-minded, caring more about others and putting their needs before mine. To survive, I had to put me first. Only then could I be of any help to others. This was a HUGE lesson that I was forced to get. By the way, if you’ve always put yourself first, your lessons may be the reverse – to see the value of giving. Ultimately, it’s about balance between giving and receiving.
  5. I learned not to care about others’ opinions of me. What others think about me is their issue. I have to do what’s right for me. That released an emotional burden of guilt and second guessing myself.  A Johnny Depp quote says it well: “Just keep moving forward and don’t give a s— about what others think. Do what you have to do for you.” Sometimes people want to keep you at their level of mediocrity because they’re afraid you’re outpacing them and might kick them to the curb. Don’t buy into others’ fears.
  6. As I was forced to funnel my energy toward taking care of me (if you’re drowning, you’re not in a position to swim over to help others), I became better at discriminating NOMB – None of My Business – and listened to people instead of coaching them to solve their problems. Not that they wouldn’t have wanted help. I didn’t have the energy to give myself away and not have enough left for myself.
  7. I finally valued my feelings so much, that I no longer allowed myself to be around negatively directed energy, mine or others, even when people didn’t realize what they were doing. If they didn’t shift, I didn’t judge them. I moved on.
  8. To balance this, creating smooth experiences with others is way, way better. Watch my manners and use my social skills, even if I was exhausted, became a mantra.
  9. I stopped trying to explain or defend myself so people would understand where I was coming from. Many were so locked into their viewpoint that they weren’t able to hear what I was saying anyway. I also learned (the hard way) not to listen to them once I realized they were rude or dumping their negative opinions on me. They were neither interested nor able to consider another perspective.
  10. Believing things will work out is an essential foundation for them actually to work… then to shift into knowing everything always works out in my favor.
  11. Maintain my dignity even when I didn’t feel I had any because of my circumstances.
  12. I realized that a reason for occasional light headedness and unexplainable fatigue I’ve had for years was a residual of a severe mold experience from 17 years ago. It would sporadically (good word for mold spores) show up. I had prayed for an answer. I got it and got rid of it.

TIP: 12 Survival Lessons from Challenging Times

You’re reading this, so I know you’re alive and therefore have been through challenging times. What did you learn? Maybe hard to see when you’re in the middle of it, but why is this a blessing in disguise?

There’s always a silver lining. You can see it if you look in the right direction.

When you redirect your focus to create good feeling mojo, you’ll create miracles and successes beyond your wildest expectations.

Step back and allow yourself to see how your business and life are actually falling into place.

TIP: 3 Ways to Create Magical Success

February 16, 2016

magic - Tony Robbins

Your intentions matter. Your thoughts, feelings and words are like magnets, so whatever you focus on grows. Magical, frustrated, stuck, discouraged or hell is your choice. Regardless of your circumstances.

I just returned from a business retreat in California, and I journaled my intentions for my trip before and during the event. Starting my day in divine flow was one of my focuses.

Before I share some of my magical outcomes and to give you a glimpse of what I mean by divine flow, here’s an excerpt from the manual of my program Resolved for Results: A Step-by-Step Guide to Live Your Dreams… even if you failed before, lost hope, are afraid, stressed or confused.

Life consists of flows of energy. Which flows do you follow?

If you tell a policeman you were speeding because you went with the flow of traffic, you’d get a ticket. You followed others’ flows.

Do you go with the flow of conversation with people who gossip or talk a lot about their problems? You followed others’ negativity to fit in.

While in divine flow, things that look like mistakes turn out to be part of the magic.

For example, while standing at a kiosk anticipating a pickup, I discovered the hotel stopped their airport shuttle service last month.

When the hotel called me back, I was told that because the organizers booked the meeting rooms last year, the hotel honored the pickup. My ride arrived in 15 minutes. Later, a woman told me she waited over two hours in the heat of the day to get her ride.

My driver learned I was staying a mile away from the hotel at an Airbnb home. He asked if I wanted a ride directly there. Arriving hours earlier than planned, the hostess happened to be there for lunch and let me in.

She offered and drove me to a local site I wanted to see, waited at a supermarket so I could buy food, dropped me off and picked me up from the hotel everyday, and gave me an extra night for free! I didn’t ask for any of this. She was so happy to volunteer these and never did this for any of her guests in the 2 ½ years she’s opened her home.

Several retreat participants who witnessed some of my experiences and facilitation came to me over the weekend proclaiming that my life is magical, and it overflows to include those around me.

Recently in business, I had a deadline to make a sale or my accumulated points and pay out would be lost. Someone contacted me out-of-the-blue and made a purchase just in time.

A Realtor client I mentioned on last week’s TIP: What to Do When There’s Not Enough had a similar experience when she signed up two listings that just appeared to her when she hadn’t had any listings in months.

You can learn the tools to create this kind of success in your life and business, too.

TIP: 3 Ways to Create Magical Success

Your magical life and business are here for your taking. It happens when you believe you can.

1. Start your day by choosing to be in Divine Flow. At first, you may notice only incremental changes – things become easier, and you may receive unexpected, positive results. During your day, focus on these not the yucky stuff. Step at a time, you’ll gain momentum… and that’s when the magic really kicks in.

2. Kick out doubt. From my Resolved for Results course: “If you surrender and then continue to energize doubt with your feelings and attention, the doubt will push out your faith. Instead, choose to kick out doubt.”

3. Be vigilant about your associations, and don’t listen to trash talk from others or the limiting voice in your head. Join a positive, mastermind group to energize you and your goals.

You’re worth it. You CAN have quicker success with grace and ease. Think about how our business can grow. Investing your energy and time to create a magical life without the stress is a lot more fun, productive, meaningful… and possible for YOU!

TIP: What to Do When There’s Not Enough

February 8, 2016

Socrates Sitting focus

During her mastermind meeting, a team member shared that she wasn’t getting new business although she previously had momentum and success.

Instead of wallowing in the doldrums of what wasn’t enough, she refocused on her goals – what she really wanted. She tweaked them, felt good about them and energized them with her positive attention.

Very soon after, she received two new contracts from people who came out of the blue. Plus, she hadn’t had activity in this part of her business for months. She and her husband talked about it being a miracle… one she triggered because of how she changed her focus.

You, too, have complete power to redirect your focus and turn any part of your life or business onto the path of success.

Your focus inspires your feelings which, in turn, creates results. Are they the ones you choose?

What’s not enough for you? Money? Business? Relationships? Time? Energy? Health?

Do you feel yucky when you think about it? Oops. You don’t want to stay there too long because that’s the energy that creates not having enough.

Focusing on what’s not enough can be a familiar habit, but it will NOT get you what you want.

If you were heading off a cliff, do you stay the course or turn the vehicle in another direction? You turn the wheel if you want to live.

Dwelling on low energy thoughts and feelings will only bring you more of what’s not working.

TIP: What to Do When There’s Not Enough

Imagine how you’d feel if you saw a laughing baby or playful puppy. A happy smile comes over your face. That creates good feeling mojo.

Find anything in your life or business that can bring a happy smile to you. C’mon, it’s there. Look for it instead of the yucky stuff.

What creates a feeling of gratitude? You’re alive and breathing, so you have the gift of life to go forth another day. I’m sure there’s a lot more. You may feel abundantly full of them.

Shift your focus by listing ten reasons of why you’re grateful.

Quickly look at what’s not enough in your life or business.

Redirect your focus and feelings. What do you choose instead?

Not enough business or money? Focus on having more instead of the lack of it. What would more look and feel like? You happy with clients and biz associates you love. Feeling empowered because you’re watching your bank account grow. Loving your vacation with family or friends. Reveling in freedom to enjoy more life. Feels good, right?

Friends or clients feeling like life-sucking vampires? See yourself enjoying the friendship of supportive and positive people where there’s mutual respect, give and take.

Focus on what you choose with good feeling mojo.

Yes, yes. The other is still there. But the way out of not having enough is to redirect your focus.

As Socrates said, “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

You have control of how you feel regardless of the circumstances. Even if they’re dire.

You can choose your focus. Use it. Don’t abuse it, and you’ll have way more than enough.

When you see any positive success at all, focus on that and let the momentum snowball. If you give your new focus a chance, you could see success faster than you thought possible.
