The Perfect Gift

December 19, 2022

It’s About Peace, My Friend.

Much of the world is lost in wanting as well as creating conflict over what they perceive they don’t have.

However, you can be a bringer of peace.

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me and you.

When you feel anxiety, ask yourself what you’re wanting.

The perfect gift? You’re more likely to find it if you’re relaxed.

Getting the house in order or landing a business deal? If you’re feeling good, you’ll spread holiday cheer to your guests or clients – and they’ll feel better around you.

Want more business or money? When you’re emotionally calm, you’re more receptive to ideas that will bring you both. Or they’ll be drawn to you like Santa Claus to cookies.

Choose peace over:

  • Wanting approval and love from others.
  • Wanting things to be a certain way so you’ll feel safe.
  • Trying to get power by controlling stuff that’s out of your control.

When you recognize that you have ALL of these  –  approval, safety, and control  –  within you now, there’s no need to chase after them.

Imagine the peace you can feel when you:

  • Let go of people pleasing as well as wanting approval and love from others. You’ll be more able to discover that you already have approval and love within you. It’s an inside job.
  • Let go of wanting to feel safe and secure so you can realize you already are. No amount of money, nothing, and noone can make you feel safe if you don’t allow yourself to feel secure within yourself.
  • Let go of the need to defend and explain yourself. Take action to take care of yourself, and observe that fearful, inner ranting gets in the way of effectiveness.
  • Let go of wanting to control others and situations. Nobody can give you power because you are already empowerd from within.

Make peace your highest priority, and experience greater success.

Don’t take my word for it. Test it out for yourself.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, a Blessed Kwanzaa, and a wonderful holiday season to you!

May peace be unto you, my friend.

THE PERFECT GIFT:  being and sharing peace. And you don’t have to be perfect to share the perfect gift.

With gratitude,

Virginia

Is Peace Really Possible? If So, How??

December 20, 2021

Much of the world is lost in their wanting of something.

As a result, people feel bad or create conflict over what they perceive as lack  what they want but don’t have. In essence, they want things like better health or relationships or weight, a better life, more money, people to behave and believe differently and on and on.

This also means that whatever they have or feel is not good enough. Not enough. The real nemesis.

Could this possibly apply to you, too?

When you feel anxiety, ask yourself what you’re wanting. Even in simple things, such as:

  • Feeling stressed because you want to give the perfect gift? You’re more likely to find it if you’re relaxed.
  • Anxious because you want to get your house in order before company comes or want to land a business deal? If you’re feeling good, you’ll spread holiday cheer to your guests or clients – and they’ll feel better around you.
  • Worried about wanting more money, better health, your ideal partner or better relationships? When you’re emotionally calm, you’re more receptive to insights. Ideas and opportunities will be drawn to you like Santa Claus finds cookies.

Can li’l ole YOU make a difference in this big, crazy world?

YES!

With each person who feels greater peace within, the world becomes more peaceful. Just like anger is infectious, so is the feeling of peace.

Which do you choose to propagate? Fear, anger, worry, frustration OR peace?

You have a choice. Sound impossible?

Do you think that you can’t help the way you feel because it’s someone else’s fault or your challenging circumstances are to blame? Wouldn’t everybody complain if they were in your shoes?

Here’s how you can begin to break that cycle, change your attitude and create a life of greater peace.

What’s the source that creates such stress?

Lack of peace comes from:

  • wanting approval from others
  • wanting to control circumstances (that are sometimes out of your control) or others’ choices and how they show up in the world
  • wanting to be free of a fear of lacking safety and security.

Can these really be the culprits of all that suffering? Yep. These three wants are the roots of what create any lack of peace!

The secret is switching your energy from wanting to having… then what you choose can come to you with grace and ease.

You can choose to experience greater peace!

First, decide that being at peace is your highest priority, more than wanting approval and love, wanting security or wanting control. (In other words, more than unconsciously wanting things that end up making you feel miserable, depressed, stressed, frustrated, fearful, worried or any crappy feeling you do NOT want.)

How?

  • Let go of wanting approval and love so you can discover that you already have approval and love. It’s an inside job, not something anyone can give you.
  • Let go of wanting to be safe and secure so you can realize you already are. If you’re trying to get this from others or feel you need more money, things, love, etc. to be happy, remember that they could be taken from you anyway. You’ll discover that you’re already safe and secure as long as you stop fearing that you’re not.
  • Let go of wanting control. No amount of trying to control external sources will ever be satisfying. You already have control, but it’s within you.
  • Let go of the need to defend yourself. What are you defending except a false sense of self?

If you make peace your highest priority, you’ll experience greater success in all areas of your life.

You’ll find that you’ll attract those who are more peaceful, and peace will ripple to others. Li’l ole you changing the world toward greater peace.

As I’m not going to try to control what you believe, may you enjoy your holiday season in a way that’s meaningful to you and your faith.

Peace be unto you, my friend.

A Breather From Chaos: My Peaceful Greeting To You

December 21, 2020

Dearest Friend,

During the last few days, I enjoyed hours online looking for a heartfelt greeting for you.

You might know these quotes from the 1946 movie “A Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart.

“Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?”

“Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.”

I could have coupled this last quote with one of countless videos of bells ringing representing you, my angel.

There also were funny, animated, Santa video cards that carried messages to stay focused on your goals (for Santa, it was his Christmas cookies) and don’t give up.

I saw Charlie Brown Christmas videos starting from the 1960’s, ancient Christmas greetings, flash mobs in malls and city streets around the world, and heard magnificent music… but none of these would inspire Santa, Rudolph and the reindeers to jump off a rooftop to dispatch my missive.

For many months, I saved the above photo to share with you this Christmas. I named it “Peaceful – A Quiet Hush.”

It brings back teenage memories of a moonlit night, watching in wonder a silent snowfall from my bedroom window in upstate New York.

Then as the time came to make a decision, an idea popped in to search for Christmas Peace Poems. Not having a television, I wasn’t familiar with what I found. Maybe you have because Amazing Peace: A Christmas Poem is a bestseller.

Maya Angleou, during her interview on the Today show, recited a portion of her poem.

We, Angels and Mortals, Believers and Non-Believers,
Look heavenward and speak the word aloud.
Peace. We look at our world and speak the word aloud.
Peace. We look at each other, then into ourselves
And we say without shyness or apology or hesitation.

Peace, My Brother.
Peace, My Sister.
Peace, My Soul.

May you celebrate peace and joy in your heart.

With gratitude,

Virginia

Christmas In July. You Make A Difference.

July 27, 2020

A few days ago, someone found my Soulgoals’ post from December 2018 and commented, “This is just what I was looking for online. Thank you.”  If the commenter is reading this, thanks to you, I’m sharing this post again. Perhaps it will make a difference in other’s lives, too.

Need a lift? Life getting you down? Mistakes or questionable choices you’ve made seem to be piling up? Or perhaps you’re doing great and would love to feel even better.

The holiday classic, 1946 movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” can put your life in perspective.

In case you missed it, when George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stuart, hit rock bottom and was ready to jump off a bridge and end his life, Clarence the angel appeared.

Just before committing suicide in the midst of his profound discouragement, George thought that maybe it would’ve been better if he was never born.

Words being powerful, Clarence got the idea to show him what life would be like for others if that were true.

Here are some quotes from the movie:

CLARENCE (to himself): Hmm, this isn’t going to be so easy. (to George) So, you still think killing yourself would make everyone feel happier, eh?

GEORGE (dejectedly): Oh, I don’t know. I guess you’re right. I suppose it would have been better if I’d never been born at all.

CLARENCE: What’d you say?

GEORGE: I said I wish I’d never been born.

CLARENCE: Oh, you mustn’t say things like that. You … wait a minute. Wait a minute. That’s an idea. (glances up toward heaven) What do you think? Yeah, that’ll do it. All right. You’ve got your wish. You’ve never been born.

Scenes followed where George was able to see the difference he made in people’s lives. Here are some examples.

CLARENCE: Your brother, Harry Bailey, broke through the ice and was drowned at the age of 9.

GEORGE: That’s a lie! Harry Bailey went to war! He got the Congressional Medal of Honor! He saved the lives of every man on that transport.

CLARENCE: Every man on that transport died! Harry wasn’t there to save them because you weren’t there to save Harry.

You see, George, you’ve really had a wonderful life. Don’t you see what a mistake it would be to throw it away?

George began to see the difference his life made when he saw the impact he’s had, not only on his brother’s life, but on the lives of friends, family and others.

GEORGE (exasperated while talking with a dear friend who doesn’t recognize him… because he hadn’t been born): Seen your wife? I’ve been to your house a hundred times.

ERNIE: Look, bud, what’s the idea? I live in a shack in Potter’s Field, and my wife ran away three years ago and took the kid … and I ain’t never seen you before in my life.

George discovered that without keeping his well-meaning but scattered Uncle Billy on track, he didn’t do so well.

MA BAILEY: When’d you see him last?

GEORGE: Today, over at the house.

MA BAILEY: That’s a lie. He’s been in the insane asylum ever since he lost his business. And, if you ask me, that’s where you belong.

CLARENCE: Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?

GEORGE: Clarence! Clarence! Help me, Clarence! Get me back! Get me back, I don’t care what happens to me! Get me back to my wife and kids! Help me Clarence, please! Please! I want to live again. I want to live again. Please, God, let me live again.

And when George returned to his life, he found that his crisis was solved with help from friends.

Regardless of your ups or downs, you make a difference.

If you have pets, they know it. So do many others.

Even if you think you’re all alone, that stranger who you smiled at felt better. Or maybe you extended a kindness by letting someone’s car go in front of you, and they felt grateful — only you didn’t know it. Or you took a moment to listen to someone who needed to be heard.

In small ways and big ones, you do matter and make a difference.

If you look past outer experiences, circumstances and limiting perceptions of yourself, you can let yourself see that you matter and you really do have a wonderful life.

Even if we’ve never met, I’m grateful for you, too!

You’re alive, which means you have a purpose for being here.

With gratitude,

Virginia

YOU Matter and Make a Difference! You Really Have a Wonderful Life!

December 17, 2018

Yes, There Is a Santa Claus

December 23, 2017

virginia-o-hanlon-letter-to-francis-church

Virginia O’Hanlon, at age eight, wrote a letter to the editor of New York’s Sun, and a quick reply was printed as an editorial on Sept. 21, 1897. Even though the paper’s response was anonymously printed, newsman Francis Pharcellus Church’s ultimate feel-good writing has since become history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial, appearing in part or whole, in dozens of languages, in books, movies, other editorials, and on posters and stamps.

Of all people to receive this editorial assignment was a sardonic Columbia College graduate and veteran writer at The Sun, a popular daily known for its lively writing and human interest stories.

Francis Church was also a war correspondent during the American Civil War. Because of the human suffering and loss he witnessed, he had lost his personal sense of faith and hope.

Church’s personal motto was ”Endeavor to clear your mind of cant” and reportedly ”bristled and pooh-poohed” when his editor asked him to reply to Virginia’s letter. However, Francis Church produced a masterpiece Christmas classic– under deadline and in less than 500 words.

THE EDITORIAL

DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’
Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

VIRGINIA O’HANLON.
115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET.

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

T
his is Virginia saying I do believe in Santa Claus. Do you?

With the magic of the season,

Virginia

Christmas Spirit – I Mean A Real Spirit

December 18, 2017

Christmas Ghost

Ever needed help but felt so alone? You’re never alone!

After her beloved father passed a couple of years ago, she was shocked at what happened next. Family members did the unimaginable by creating legal maneuvers over a fortune that left them riding high and her nearly destitute.

They cornered her from every angle she had available so she wasn’t able to stand up to them effectively. She was left feeling angry, frustrated, betrayed, broke and nearly broken by those she trusted.

It looked hopeless with no way out.

Recently, her father appeared to her in a lucid dream. She told me, “It was real; I felt like I was alive and really there in the dream.

“We were looking out at a field of grass and flowers with trees perfectly in a row lining each side. It was beautiful, very colorful and really alive.

“I know we were with other family members.” One in particular is the one whose greed had guided the misdeeds.

With anger that had been common while he was alive physically, he told his wife, “Get it corrected! The will is not be in any one else’s hands!!”

She shared the following with me but with no one else because others might not believe her vivid encounters. As my writing is anonymous, she agreed to let me share this with you.

Her father appears to my client often as if he’s in physical form. Even after writing my draft of this post, she texted that she saw him while she was driving; this time he appeared as a young man.

Seeing him calms me down, and I know he’s with me and correcting the situation.”

Recently, I saw Charles Dickens’ The Christmas Carol where Scrooge had a change of heart because of visitations by Christmas ghosts.

Life works in mysterious ways. Events happen that make the seeming impossible possible. As Scrooge learned, it’s not too late for anyone to change, to Be, to receive, to give, to open to Love.

If you open to receive, you can discover that help is always available and you’re never alone.

Maybe there’s more to the story of The Christmas Carol than just a metaphor.

Einstein said, ““Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.”

So what happens to anyone’s energy when they pass on? Could they be alive but in another form? My client has frequent rendezvous with her father that cause her to believe that there’s more to life than what we think we know.

Think of the possibilities you have available right now if you allow yourself to receive support from intelligence and profound caring from infinite sources.

Think of the impact that could make on any of your problems from money and business to relationships and health.

Over the years, I’ve found if I let go of my limited beliefs and shift instead to be open to receive, miracles happen in my life that defy logical assumptions or solutions I could imagine.

Consider playing a game. Think of an issue you have and then let go of it emotionally. Just for an experiment, let go of worrying, being in fear or trying to control outcomes.

When you let go of being all balled up emotionally, you also let go of resistance to your issues.

You now have created more space for solutions to appear.

While you’re in a more receptive mode (or even if you’re not), ask for help.

According to your beliefs, help may come from your inner wisdom, God, Jesus, loved ones who’ve passed on or a team on the other side who are waiting for you to ask for assistance.

You can open to a calm presence within and situations resolving themselves beyond your wildest imagination.

YOU can be a living example of peace on earth, goodwill to man.

My Gift to You

December 19, 2016

christmas-gifts

Dear Friend,

My gift to you is one I give but only you can allow yourself to receive.

My gift to you is Peace and Joy.

Peace in your heart where nobody or nothing disturbs you.

Peace that comes from not judging others or yourself lest you be judged.

Peace that comes from not participating in criticism by speaking or listening to it.

Peace that comes from not taking on world problems and carrying them as your burden.

Peace that comes from putting life in perspective and not letting the little stuff bother you – and it’s all little stuff.

Peace that comes from compassion that others are doing the best they can even if it doesn’t meet your standards or if you don’t feel satisfied with whatever they have to give.

Peace that comes from making a decision to feel good instead of focusing on irritations, challenges and who done you wrong.

Peace that comes from choosing to stop worrying and living in fear but instead trusting in a Divine Presence that’s on your side, got your back and helps you to pave your future.

Peace that comes from kindness: kind words, kind actions, kind thoughts, kind intentions, kind feelings.

Peace that comes from the spirit of Christmas.

Peace that starts with you and spreads to the world.

And when the veils of illusion that cloud your Peace are replaced by Love, Joy fills your heart.

Believe that more Peace is available for you in this very moment.

Everyday you experience one or more moments of Peace and Joy, like when you see a baby, kitten, puppy or beautiful sunset.

So you know the feeling of Peace.

Simply expand on that, a little more each day.

Just like turning on a radio station, you can align your frequency to send and receive Peace and Joy.

It’s easier now to do this by tuning into the spirit of Christmas, whatever your personal beliefs, because Peace, Joy and Love are very much in the air.

May you drink deeply of this wonderful elixir of the Soul.

Enjoy your gifts!

With gratitude,

Virginia
